Chapter 1 The Opposite of the Little Sister From Hell Keiichi's life had settled into normality (or what could pass for it). Of course, this meant that something was bound to happen soon. Maybe Mara would pay a visit. Maybe Urd would try to "improve" something. But then again, maybe things might actually stay "normal" for once and his relationship with Belldandy could advance. He thought about it. "Not likely." Keiichi sighed. Who would have thought peace could be so boring? Belldandy was out shopping. Urd was showing some new goddess the ropes. Skuld had attended some convention. He was just sitting on the floor, thinking about what he could be doing. Keiichi had now just resigned himself to simply looking at a spare wheel that was left over from a bike design gathering dust. "Boring. Boring! BORING!" Keiichi's mind screamed out. By now, the wheel had so much dust it looked white. Bright white. In fact, it seemed to be glowing. He quickly checked again. White pattern detected. Goddess confirmed. Panicked, he got up and backed off quickly. A young woman pulled herself out of the wheel. Something about the way she came out suggested that she hadn't been doing this for long. This new goddess had a red pinwheel pattern on her forehead, and slightly orangish stars above her cheeks. She had short brown hair, clothes similar to Belldandy's uniform, and a somewhat mischievious smile. "Hi Kei-chan!" she exclaimed, with great familiarity. Keiichi thought quickly. Kei-chan? Only one person called him that. That was... "Oh no" he thought, "this can't be real." He checked again. Still had that smile, the hair, and the face of the girl he had known for a little over two decades. "MEGUMI!!!!!??????????" He shouted, "Wh......wh......what happened to you?" Keiichi's face was pale, with look of complete surprise and a degree of fear. There had to be some explanation. This was Megumi. This was a goddess. There was something wrong with those two statements. It had to be one or the other! Not both! No way. There had to be some sort of limitation to weirdness in his life. The madness in his life had to stop somewhere! Megumi couldn't have become a goddess! "I've become a goddess! This has got to be the best thing to happen to me!" Megumi exclaimed. "But Keichii, why did you keep the truth from me?" A look of dissapointment started to develop. "Why didn't you tell me the truth about Belldandy and her sisters?" Her brother just stare off into space. "Keiichi? Keiichi? Are you listening? Kei-chan? Kei-chan?" Keiichi was unable to reply, being to busy envisioning the further chaos and unholy(and holy) complications that would come to pass. Thoughts of the entire temple exploding in a ball of magical energy passed through his mind. This was soon followed by a visions of being chosen as the test subject for various potions. Several other scenarios passed through his mind, ending with the most terrible of all. The last thing Keiichi thought before passing out was of an SD Megumi running a "Wishes for Sale" stand with a large sign reading "Only 100 Yen!" When he came to, he saw Belldandy, her sisters, and his sister talking in front of him. Having just woken up, he jumped for the most assuring answer to the most recent events in his memory. This was disproven when he saw the goddess markings on Megumi's face. "We're doomed." he muttered, "My sister is a goddess and the whole city is gonna...". He babbled on for a while before he was interrupted by Megami-Megumi. "I've just started learning to use my power, but I'm not going to be that bad!" She shouted. This snapped Keiichi back to reality. "Learning? Who's teaching?" Keiichi was desperately hoping that Belldandy was teaching her. At least that would keep damage down, or maybe even eliminate it altogether. Yeah! Belldandy must be teaching her! Who else would be qualified? Belldandy was quiet, nice, polite, and the least likely to skip straight to the complex and potentially dangerous spells. "I am." stated Urd. Thoughts of destruction re-entered Keiichi's brain. He shook them off and went on to more pressing matters. "But how? How could a mortal just suddenly become a deity?" Keiichi questioned. "How? And why her?" Belldandy turned to him. "Let me explain, Keiichi-san." The day before.... Kami-sama worked in his office. Unlike what most believed, He actually did help out with little things. At this particular moment, He was checking contracts that had been made over the last few years for any possible major bugs that could be prevented. It was a boring job. Point.Click. Scroll. Point. Click. Scroll. etc. Before finishing, one particular contract caught His attention. Mostly because it as flashing red and marked as incredibly urgent, and Yggdrasil's sound system was blaring, "DANGER! DANGER! CONFLICT PRESENT! INTERVENTION REQUIRED! DANGER! DANGER!". Since He wasn't about to see what would happen if it were ignored, He opened it, and proceeded to carefully read over it. Contract 23458395828491486 TK421 Issued to: Mortal ID# 59827401284501204869403 K1, Morisato Keiichi Goddess Representative Chosen: Belldandy Time to completion: Infinite Belldandy of the Goddess Relief Offices is to stay with the mortal, Morisato Keiichi, forever. Special Notes: Morisato, being a mortal, cannot live forever. Contract cannot be terminated, due to priority 1 approval of the contract within the Fujishima sector of Yggdrasil. Probability of revocation of contract: 0 "Background check on mortal number 59827401284501204869403 K1" He told the computer. Roughly 15 windows popped open filled with graphs, charts, lists, sound clips, movie files, and other miscellany. He minimized most of the minor ones, then began reading. Morisato Keiichi Estimated Age: Early to mid twenties Estimated Weight: Not much Estimated Height: Laughably Short Gender: Male The statistics went on and on. Kami-sama finally had enough and decided to skip straight to summaries of Morisato's life. He closed the statistics window, then restored the summaries window to its full size. Minor Demonic Tainting Summary of Events: Was once posessed by the Lord of Terror. Residual demonic influence left behind and dormant. Chances of repossesion: Minimal Life Summary: Day 1: Mortal 23458395828491486 TK421 was reincarnated into the world as a male. Day 2: Slept most of the day. Relatives fawned over him. Day 3: Slept most of the day. Relatives fawned over him. Day 4: Slept most of the day. Relatives fawned over him. Day 5: Slept most of the day. Coughed. Relatives fawned over him even more. Kami-sama scrolled further and further down, past all the minor details, and straight to the subjects of importance. He read carefully. "Hmmm...generally good, has romantic intrest in Belldandy, non-confrontational, little to dislike about him, Generous, caring, Friend of Nature...qualified for TWO wishes?" The list went on and on. There were few negative marks at all, unlike most mortals. The best course of action would be to promote Morisato to God status. The statistics He saw were very promising. Not only would it solve the whole problem with the contract, but Morisato would also be an excellent addition to the deities. The time to take action was now. "Yggdrasil, send form GL 44 to Morisato-san." On Earth, a letter materialized in the home of Morisato-san. Unfortunately, it was the home of Morisato Megumi. Yggdrasil, believing it was done with the job, decided to return to its normal functions without checking for any problems. Big mistake. Megumi returned to her apartment an hour later, and picked up the letter, curious as to what it was. Morisato-san, We have reviewed your actions and background and find you qualified enough to join our organization. Few have ever managed to even qualify, but you have exceeded all expectations. One of our employees will meet you later this evening at your area of residence. Sincerely, (There was some lettering in a strange language here.) The Chairman of this organization Megumi just stared at the letter in confusion. She wasn't quite sure what anything in it meant. It was good news, but it was incredibly vague. Almost like it was meant for someone else. She decided to forget about about it. Just wait until the evening, and all her questions would be answered. She decided to work on some machines in her room until whoever this employee was came along. A few hours later, Megumi was about ready to take a break. She walked out of her room and right into a strange woman. Megumi jumped back, startled. "Who are you?!" The woman was wearing some kind of business suit. She was somewhat short, with dark hair and a energetic appearance. She introduced herself. "I must apologize for this sudden appearance. My name is Laga. I have come to enlist you in our organization." "Thank you, but how did you get in?" Megumi said in a voice that hadn't completely recovered from the panic of seeing a complete stranger in her home. "I came in through the door." Laga said. She took a closer look at Megumi, and was slightly puzzled. "You are Morisato-san, right?" "Hai." she replied. "So you're Belldandy's 'special friend'?" Laga asked, just to make sure. "Ano....I guess you could say that...." Megumi replied hesitantly. "Heh. It's always the ones they least expect. Guess I won that bet." "What was that?" "Nothing. Anyway, please follow me. Transportation has been arranged to take you to headquarters." "Does this organization have to be so vague all the time?" "I do not have the authorization to answer that. We're running late. Come with me." Laga and Megumi walked towards the door before they came to a complete stop. "Why are we stopping?" Megumi asked somewhat frustrated. Laga simply touched the center of the door. It started to glow, and it rippled slightly at her touch. Megumi's eyes went wide with shock. This just kept getting weirder and weirder. She stared as Laga walked straight into the door. She followed, having no other options in mind. What kind of "organization" was this?! A bright light consumed her vision as she walked into the door. When the light faded, Megumi found herself in a glass cylindrical elevator along with the woman who called herself Laga. Desperate for answers, she turned to Laga and shouted "Could you tell me what is going on here?!" "Not so loud." Laga replied calmly. "Just tell me what is going on! Nothing makes sense!" "Fine. I'll explain, although I would have thought that the acceptance letter would have cleared everything up. You see, Morisato-san, your...."friend" Belldandy has been a member of our organization for some time. Due to your....unique relationship with her, problems would eventually arise due to the fact that you are not one of us. After a careful analysis, our leader has decided that you would be an excellent addition to our group." Laga explained. "And....what exactly is this group?" Megumi asked, almost afraid. "You probably already know, but I'll say it anyway. We are the deities. We are the gods and goddeses that run the everyday physics of the world. Mortals like you have worshipped us from the beginning of your existance. In case you couldn't tell, everyone up here in Asgard has been eagerly awaiting your arrival. This is because you have been selected to become one of us, and the rise of a mortal to deity status hasn't happened in several millenia. Are there any questions, Morisato-san?" No reply. Laga turned around. "Morisato-san?" Megumi was on the floor, having passed out several seconds ago. When Megumi came to, she was in the center of a gigantic room. Around her were all sorts of strange markings on the floor arranged in a circular pattern. The markings stretched on for as far as she could see. Normally, she would have dismissed the events before as some kind of weird dream, but this was even more bizzare. "Laga-san?" She called out. "Laga?" "Right here!" Laga's voice called out from a speaker in the ceiling. "Ano.....what is this?" "It's one of our more powerful magic circles. You see, this room is pretty much only used to turn mortals into deities. Of course, it hasn't been used in quite some time." "What do you mean, some time?!" Megumi asked, her mind focusing more on what *could* happen than what was supposed to. "You see, it's an old circle, and nobody's redrawn it since it was made. Maintainence has been a bit slow lately, so I've taken the liberty of making a few improvisations where I'm not sure what the manual meant. The pages are getting faded, after all. But don't worry! I've got everything under control! "Nani?! Matte!" "Just be happy that nobody's bothered to renovate this section in the last four millenia; otherwise, we'd just have to dip you in the quantum fires of creation and hope that there was enough of you left afterward to fill out a uniform. There's nothing to worry about! Besides, I've already started!" Megumi was about to reply, when she felt an intense amount of energy surge through her... A few minutes later, Laga led a very charred, blackened, and dazed Megumi down a white hall. There were paintings, statues, and other works of art along the side. Laga turned towards the newly created goddess. "Sorry. That explosion wasn't supposed to be part of the process." The new goddess simply walked on in shock. "W--wasn't supposed to be part of......" "No. I suspect the problem came from the original design. I could have improved that part, if I saw it on time, though. Good thing I fixed all those other parts!" Laga exclaimed cheerily. Megumi simply walked on, completely out of it. "Besides, that soot will wash off. Or Bell can clean you herself." Laga said, nudging Megumi. Megumi didn't even bother trying to figure out what that meant. They came to a large door with all sorts of carvings on it. In the carvings, the various names Kami-sama had used over the course of time were written. Kami-sama. God. Jehova. Allah. Zeus. Big G. Laga casually opened the door, and shoved Megumi in before closing it. "Bye bye!" Megumi looked around, just starting to come to terms with everything that happened. She had just learned that the girl that had developed a romantic relationship with her brother had her sisters been hiding the fact that they were goddesses. Along with this, she had been chosen for some reason to become one of them, and had to undergo training to learn how to use her new powers. Her attention was soon turned toward the man sitting at the desk far across the room from her. "K.....k.....konnichi wa." She stated, nervously. The man in front of her, if the names on the door were of any importance, was Kami-sama Himself. "I.....I'm the new deity." She said, feeling slightly odd calling herself a deity. Kami-sama simply looked at her strangely. "You are Morisato-san?" He asked, just to test if his vision was starting to fade after so many millenia. "H...hai!" Megumi exclaimed with a sense of awe and nervousness. "Belldandy's associate?" "Hai!" For the first time in several centuries, Kami-sama sweatdropped. "Could you say your name again?" "Morisato Megumi!" She exclaimed, trying not to look weak. Kami-sama examined her. Obviously, there had been some kind of mistake, and one Morisato had been confused for another. Maybe the whole "vague and mysterious" thing was beginning to be obsolete. He tapped a button under his desk to scan the latest entry to Asgard's deities. A small monitor came up on his desk, with the readings and statistics on Megumi. He looked over them, a thoughtful look on his face. Strange......this girl had just arrived from mortal status a few minutes ago, yet her maximum potential power was at least one hundredth of his own, rivaling some of the oldest and most experienced gods and goddesses. Of course, she would not reach that level for quite some time. The possible mass outbreak of bugs wouldn't happen until Keiichi died, so he could wait. This girl, Megumi, had potential to be one of the best. Besides, the circle would take a while to recharge, so the best course of action would be to train her now and her brother later. The chance to bring two potentially excellent candidates into the ranks of the gods and goddesses was not something He could pass up. Kami-sama turned towards her. "Morisato-san, although this offer was originally meant for your brother, there was a slight mix up. However, I sense incredibly potential within you. You are to report to the council to be assigned a teacher. Your travel medium is wheels and wheel-like objects." In front of a still-stunned Megami-Megumi, a wheel materialized. "You are dismissed." Megumi carefully touched the wheel. An image of a round room with many open windows entered her mind. She was pulled in through the wheel. Within seconds, Megumi had dissapeared from Kami-sama's office. A large trail of soot and ashes were all over the floor. Kami-sama simply pulled over a microphone. "There's a slight mess on my floor. Send someone over to clean it up." Over at the deity council, a slight argument was taking place. Megumi was currently in the center of a circular room, with about twelve or so gods around the perimeter. The topic of the argument: Who should train her. "I'm not training her! I'm no good at this sort of thing!" "You aren't confident enough in your abilities as a teacher." "That's not it!" "What is it then?" "The girl is dangerous! They all sense it, why can't you?" "What do you mean, 'they'? You're the only one who's opposing this!" "No. There is another." At this point, a short green creature started talking to Megumi. "I sense much fear in you." Megumi sweatdropped "Ano......." "Fear is the path to the dark side! Fear leads to anger! Anger leads to hate! And hate......leads to suffering." One of the other gods casually picked up the creature and threw him out the window. "Sorry about that. I don't know what he is, or where he came from, but he just keeps coming back. Anyway, I think that our friend here would be an excellent instructor." "No! There's something weird about her! Why not let Belldandy teach her, if they like each other so much?" The God of Paranoia started hyperventilating. "It would be unprofessional to allow a relationship like that at the workplace. They can do what they want after hours (One of the gods had a nosebleed after that part), but their relationship would interfere with maintainence of the world below! If you're not going to, who will?" Urd walked in through the door. "I'm here to clean up that mess you called abo- Megumi!" "Urd!" The gods in the room just nodded simultaniously, reaching a silent agreement. The leader turned towards the latest arrival to the room. "Urd. We have a new assignment for you." --------------------- "And that was when they gave me the job of training Megumi." finished Urd. "Wait." interrupted Skuld. "Wasn't Belldandy telling the story? Why are you telling it now?" This stunned Urd. "I........have no idea. That's not important right now though. Keiichi, what do you think?" Keiichi simply sat there, completely amazed at how contrived the whole idea was. A simple mix up of names! It was almost as if some higher being had meant for this to happen as some sort of sick joke! But, this was reality. His sister was a goddess now, and his life would obviously become a lot harder. "I.....understand. I'll be supportive, but this is, so far, the weirdest thing to happen to me." Megumi was cheerful. "Glad you understand Kei-chan! You won't be opposed to me moving back then!" "Nani?!" "If Urd's training me, I've gotta stay nearby!" "But......" "No exceptions! Orders from Kami-sama Himself!" The talking would continue through most of the night. However, none of the inhabitants of the temple suspected that they were being watched. Two beings hidden in the shadows watched the newest developments at the temple with interest. This new goddess would be the subject of their attentions for the night. From a different angle, completely hidden to the goddesses, their male companion, and the dark beings, an object that could be best described as a video camera with propellors hovered above the ground, observing them. However, the owner of the camera had a goal completely different from the other two groups.... The god Dionysus was a generally happy man. Sure, even he had done some mortal smiting in his day, but at the moment, he was simply relaxing, sipping from a glass of wine, and watching TV. He was currently flipping through various channels, when something caught his attention. He turned up the volume. "Good evening! This is Laga, and you are watching the Asgard Television Network! Our Top Story Tonight!"(A temple showed up on the screen, focusing on two brown haired goddesses. "Morisato-san. This elusive mortal has been the talk of Asgard for years!
