Session Start: Fri Aug 25 18:02:22 2006 Session Ident: #Aeoth [18:02:22] * Now talking in #Aeoth [18:03:18] * Robin sets mode: +o Lucy [18:03:52] Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. XD [18:04:05] LSD! [18:04:22] Drug or Street? You decide. [18:05:50] * Zegon doesn't really know how this'll turn out, but we'll find out! [18:08:39] XD [18:17:04] When will we start? [18:17:14] Soon. [18:20:58] Within 20 monites soon, because I might have to drop something off at a friend's house, though it doesn't have to be tonight [18:30:25] ping [18:30:34] Give him a bit. [18:30:43] Zeg doesn't have a lot of experience with GMing on the fly yet. ;) [18:30:51] I was wondering if I had time to drop off the package then return. [18:31:18] * Zegon cracks his knuckles. "Okay, let's get this train wreck'a'rolling." [18:31:29] Woot! [18:32:07] :D [18:34:10] [Going to Elf-land, that's what our intrepid adventurers are doing! Well, two of them anyways, to warn them of the orcish settlement on their lands and the danger such a settlement proves to their being... yes.] [18:34:25] [But how are they going to get to elf-land is a good question...] [18:34:41] * Robin is now known as Kardos [18:34:46] * Kardos is intrepid, now! That's new. [18:38:33] [I'm the GM, I can make nebulous statements like that. I can also make not-so-nebulous statements, but they may or may not be true.] [18:39:46] [Anyways, torwards elves! Kardos apparently knows the way, although how he knows is a good question that might need to be explained. It's the second day of traveling of, presumably, not too many more. The caravan will likely have gone ahead with your detour, but that's not too big of a surprise I hope.] [18:39:49] [Session start!] [18:40:10] * Kardos enjoys his newfound intrepidness. [18:40:11] [Oh, setting. Um, woods. Lots of woods.] [18:40:25] [And there are animals too that generally stay out of your way.] [18:41:39] * Lucy moves along. "How're you holding out?" [18:41:51] * Kardos lopes along unconcernedly, stopping now and then to examine some aspect of his surroundings at random. Also, he occasionally sniffs at the ground, which would probably look either comical or odd. Or both. [18:42:00] I am doing well, thank you. [18:43:08] How'd you come to know the settlements here? [18:43:15] I have some experience at wilderness movement from my youth. [18:43:21] Ah... [18:43:39] I haven't really been travelling until this past year or so. [18:43:51] As for local settlements, I haven't, directly. However, I was taught much of the Elven lore regarding such things. [18:45:02] What'd it say? [18:46:34] I believe we are fairly close. The finding-song for this area was relatively unambiguous, thankfully. [18:47:07] What's a finding-song? [18:48:01] A song taught to young elves so that they can find their ways to elven communities when lost. I only know a few, but most elven children learn a great many in case they disappear in some magical accident. [18:48:33] * Kardos pauses for a moment and looks at Lucy. "This may seem like an odd precaution, but I am told it used to happen a great deal in the times of yore." [18:49:12] Always best to be safe. And I guess when elves live as long as they do, that stuff just isn't ancient history to them [18:50:56] * Kardos continues on. "That was something that provided something of a stumbling-block to my mind, actually; the idea that, although elves are ageless in a very real and practical sense, there are times so far gone that they consider them ancient history, too." [18:51:22] * Lucy nods. [18:52:01] I guess the stuff they think is ancient history might have been forgotten by a lot of other races. [18:53:12] So they say, yes. [18:54:14] Think they're right? [18:55:01] I have heard many elven songs and tales about those times, but I haven't been able to make sense of them, yet. I am told that I will in time. [18:55:21] Huh. [18:56:23] Until then, I cannot rightly say. Some of the things said in these songs are apocraphal, and where I have known what they say, I still do not know what they mean, I believe. [18:56:24] (That's just what they tell you to make you feel better. ~_^) [18:56:33] ( ;P ) [18:56:37] * Lucy nods. [18:56:45] (Really, they don't understand a word of it either.) [18:57:50] Like what? [19:02:08] Tales of "weaving spells around nations", tales of "flying cities" ruled by "folly", tales of sailing from "thence" from across "the sea of stars". I have yet to find references to any of this in conventional texts of -- ah. [19:02:24] ... ah? [19:02:31] * Kardos rubs a tree. "Yes, we are close." [19:02:47] Excellent [19:06:57] * Kardos resumes his forward movement! [19:07:25] * Lucy moves on. "We have some elves living back home, though they tend not to stay for a long period of time by their reckoning." [19:07:37] Oh? [19:07:44] Twenty or thirty years at a time, then? [19:08:19] Around that, though occasionally longer. Some come back several times. [19:09:05] It's a small farming community growing plants of all sorts. Flowers, food, you name it, it's there. I think the elves appreciate the variety. [19:09:52] Quite probably. Although most elves don't approve of conventional agriculture, your village does not quite sound conventional. [19:11:56] * Lucy nods [19:14:04] [And you keep going! So long, in fact, it's now day three. So you've been traveling for a pretty long while now, it's about midday on the third day, and you should start hitting actual settlements now. It's the morning and, well, you get the idea. Go ahead and pose so I can throw stuff at you guys.] [19:14:44] * Lucy rides along, a little tired, but otherwise alright. "What should the settlements look like?" [19:16:43] * Kardos doesn't seem to mind the long hours of traveling, himself. "The easiest parts to notice will be root-dwellings in the bases of large, old trees. Although if they already know of the orcs, there may be a conjured wall of some sort." [19:19:13] * Lucy nods. [19:19:44] Thanks for coming with me. [19:20:15] In honesty, I should be thankful for your accompaniment. [19:20:33] [Almost on-cue, there's some sort of elf settlement ahead. Not particularly large, but definetly big enough to have a good population. Larger than the orc settlement, easily. There are normal huts and such, as well as root-dwellings, and a few tree-buildings in a trio of intertwined extra-large trees.] [19:21:42] * Kardos nods and begins looking for someone with a sword. [19:21:58] * Lucy smiles and follows. [19:22:18] [Mostly elves, but some humans, half-elves, and halflings can be seen rushing about their daily business. There is indeed an elf with a sword near the outskirts of the town!] [19:22:58] * Kardos hails the ensworded elf with something in Elvish and a raised hand. [19:25:23] [19:29:06] [19:29:33] * Kardos bows to the elf so adressed. [19:30:40] * Lucy just lets Kardos handle the talk [19:32:05] * Elf bows back. "" [19:33:22] * Kardos gestures to Lucy. [19:34:41] [19:35:13] * Kardos shakes his head. He turns to the tall lanky girl. "Lucy, would you prefer we speak in the common parlance?" [19:35:49] [19:36:20] * Kardos makes an effort at a smile. [19:37:10] * Kardos turns back to the enswordled elf. < We have traveled to bring you news, should you not yet have it, of an agressive camp of orcs to the south-west of here, three days by horse. We were assisting a caravan that was attacked by these orcs, and after learning you were nearby, we felt it important to ensure you were aware. > [19:40:22] * Elanthren nods. "" [19:44:03] * Kardos nods. "" [19:49:28] [19:49:59] * Kardos turns to Lucy. "" [19:50:29] [19:51:36] [19:54:13] [19:55:09] * Kardos nods. "" He turns to the elf-at-arms, saying "" [19:58:10] [19:59:26] [20:00:15] * Kardos bows. [20:00:56] * Kardos heads of for a glade! [20:01:30] * Lucy follows along. Have you slept in one of their trees before? [20:07:34] Fairly often. Although their trees tend to require more climbing to find a good branch to sleep in. [20:07:45] Ah... [20:07:51] Should be interesting [20:09:31] Quite. Mind, most glades in and around elven settlements have grass that makes for good sleeping, as well, and is much simpler to arrive at. [20:10:15] That's good. [20:10:28] You spent a lot of time staying with elves when you were travelling the wilderness? [20:11:16] Not precicely. I spent three years living and studying with elves; this marked the end of my travels in the wilderness. [20:11:54] Aaah [20:13:19] What were you doing travelling, anyway? Just wanted to see the world? [20:13:25] * Kardos sniffs at the air. "Ah, even better. The inn has a halfling chef." [20:14:06] Ooh. [20:14:13] They're the best. [20:15:59] * Kardos changes direction for the inn. Food > rest. "I'm not sure why I was travelling. It would seem, however, that I belonged to a tribe of nomadic warrior-folk that disappeared, or else I was separated from them in some other manner." [20:16:28] You aren't sure? [20:17:18] No. I was much too young to remember at the time. I recall little of my life with my tribe, or clan, or group. I remember a symbol that represented them, but nobody is familiar with it. [20:17:47] What's it look like? [20:19:44] A long white feather held in a fist against a blue circle. [20:20:20] Hm... I guess you'll have to add me to that list. [20:20:48] * Kardos nods. "It is a large list." [20:20:57] * Kardos finds his way to the inn! Mmm, smells good. [20:21:39] * Lucy follows cheerfully [20:21:56] [It does indeed! Boy, do those halflings sure know how to cook, and from the smell of it the current big thing on the menu is pie. Fruit pie.] [20:23:23] * Kardos enters! [20:23:51] * Lucy enters as well! [20:25:50] [Entering Kardos does! The inn is well-furbished, with a homey atmosphere. It's a small establishment, with only three simple wooden tables and a bar. There's a fourth table heighted for the little-folk, but it's not like you'd be able to sit at it. A halfling barkeep is at the bar and spies you as you enter. Currently there isn't anyone there other than you two and the barkeep.] [20:27:04] * Kardos sniffs at the air and looks around for a more comprehensive menu. [20:28:07] * Lucy waves a friendly greeting [20:28:26] [The halfling barks.] "Hey kids, only thing on the menu right now is pie and drink. The missus isn't cooking dinner yet." [20:30:27] What sorts of pie? [20:30:38] Fruit. [20:30:58] * Kardos blinks. "What sorts of fruit?" [20:33:21] What are ya, deaf? Fruit! Berries, apple, cherry. [20:33:44] Ah. [20:34:04] We would like a fruit pie, I believe. [20:34:23] I'll have fruit pie and a drink. [20:35:03] Water would be welcome. [20:35:05] One fruit pie and a drink, mmmhmmm. [20:40:31] Two drinks, please. [20:41:41] Three drinks then? [20:42:27] No, two total. One for her, and one for me. Please. [20:42:55] Oh? Ah, of course. Ya want wine, mead, or ale? [20:43:19] Whatever he's having [20:43:40] Wine. [20:43:57] * Lucy nods. [20:44:09] * The halfling shouts to the back. "One wine and a pie for the happy couple!" [20:44:46] * Kardos blinks. "Happy... couple?" [20:45:05] Ah.. we're not a couple. [20:45:10] What? There's two of you, that's a couple. [20:45:50] I guess. [20:46:02] * Kardos frowns as he begins to see why nobody else is in this establishment. "Or perhaps a pairing of customers." [20:47:52] Sure, sure. [20:48:12] * The halfling wanders back to the wine cellar to pick up some of that stuff. [20:48:21] Thanks [20:51:36] * Kardos sighs. [20:51:49] * Kardos looks out the window. What time of day is it? [20:51:51] [After a short bit there's a brief 'whoomp' sound, and the halfling comes out with two wine glasses and a bottle of wine, and a whole pie and two plates. How he manages to carry it all is one giant balancing act.] [20:52:00] [It is currently a little after noon.] [20:52:44] * Kardos takes the tray with thanks and carries it to one of the big-folk tables. [20:52:56] * Lucy follows! [20:53:10] If we eat and rest only briefly, we can set out sooner. [20:53:38] Yeah... [20:53:46] They might be worried about us [20:54:58] Perhaps. [20:57:03] If nothing else, the caravan may require further assistance. Although I doubt from the same band of orcs. [20:57:05] * Lucy gets started. :9 [20:57:19] [The halfling plops the things on the table.] Here ya go. [21:00:45] Thanks [21:02:16] Thank you. [21:02:19] * Kardos eets. :9 [21:02:31] * Lucy eats! [21:17:50] [And so they ate! Session end!] [21:18:19] :9 [21:18:56] * Demota (demota@c-24-6-131-192.hsd1.ca.comcast.net) has joined #aeoth [21:19:02] * Disconnected Session Close: Fri Aug 25 21:19:03 2006 1:18:56] * Now talking in #aeoth [21:19:02] * Lucy (demota@c-24-6-131-192.hsd1.ca.comcast.net) Quit (Quit: ) [23:06:44] * Kardos (YU-Mei@host-206-54-194-142.entouch.net) Quit (Quit: WHEE!
