Session Start: Fri Jan 05 17:59:19 2007 Session Ident: #Aeoth [17:59:19] * Now talking in #Aeoth [17:59:19] * Topic is 'Onto the next adventure! Do you a) Follow the rumors of the mysterious truth to the north (page 53), b) head off for revenge on your nemesis and arch-rival Young Nastyman (page 5), or c) Stay and hope something develops where you are (page 231)?' [17:59:19] * Set by Zegon on Fri Jan 05 17:27:46 [17:59:22] * Dicething is now known as Lucy [18:01:08] * Robin (YU-Mei@host-206-54-194-142.entouch.net) has joined #Aeoth [18:01:19] I am in being the happy. XD [18:01:46] * Robin snerks at the topicline. [18:02:42] c! c! [18:02:49] Nemesis and archirval will come to us. [18:02:53] ANd with them, mysterious truth [18:03:33] No. [18:03:46] One does not pact with new monsters by sitting around. [18:04:19] Waiting for adventures to come to you is definitely suboptimal. [18:04:36] Myserious truth is always good for spellcasters, tho. [18:04:39] +t [18:04:55] Sometimes it even provides stat bonuses. [18:05:12] * CCD (CCD@67-43-240-163-cablemodem-roll.fidnet.com) Quit (Ping timeout) [18:05:54] ND: If only there were a way to make adventures come to you [18:06:03] Maybe you could kidnap your enemy's loved ones or something [18:09:57] Only the bad guys do that. [18:10:30] Oh. [18:10:30] * Hank (chamelaeon@ip68-229-190-130.om.om.cox.net) has joined #Aeoth [18:10:41] Yo. [18:10:45] Waiting for CCD to get back now. [18:10:53] hokay. [18:13:25] * Robin is now known as Kardos [18:15:24] * CCD (CCD@67-43-240-163-cablemodem-roll.fidnet.com) has joined #Aeoth [18:15:32] * Kardos is ready to pwn some bitches in an obsequious and polite fashion! [18:16:21] * CCD is now known as Leo [18:16:38] * NinjaDebugger is now known as Clarissa [18:27:21] * Leo is now known as CCDAway [18:29:13] * CCD (CCDWork@67-43-240-163-cablemodem-roll.fidnet.com) has joined #aeoth [18:29:20] * CCD is now known as Leo [18:32:28] * Zegon cracks his knuckles. Okay. [18:42:08] [We join our heroes soon after the beginning of August (Wednesday the fourth if you're keeping track.) The heroes have been spending time doing whatever training, research, or other deeds they wished to do durring the downtime because if you don't, you don't get no levels. And if you don't get no levels, you don't live long, do you?] [18:46:10] [After the time has passed, Kardos, Clarissa, and Marke's research turned up a few interesting tidbits, and now at this schedualed time and place in one of the roomier rooms at the Inn of the Fallen Goard (a fine establishment owned by a pair of rather happy, if devoutly religious to Yondalla, halflings) to discuss your findings and decide what to do next.] [18:54:55] [Session start!] [18:56:15] * Kardos discusses the faith of Yondalla with one of the innkeepers while waiting for the others to show up. [18:56:31] * Hank is leaning back with a pint of ale, looking as rugged as ever. He's wearing a new cloak! [18:57:27] * Leo is finishing up his rather long winded apology to every one. "So...I have been closed up in the temple too long, I would like to continue with you if I could." [18:58:29] * The innkeepers only 'Want you should be happy', in that they seem over-eager to shove food and such onto their guest's plates. [18:59:03] * Lucy is eating cheerfully near Kardos and the others. [18:59:47] * Clarissa has a big, heaping helping of potatoes and cheese and eggs for breakfast. [19:00:46] * Khrosk lumbers in, three steins of ale in one hand and a sack full of gold coins in the other. "Khrosk big winner!" [19:01:24] Oh, hey Khrosk. Congrats. How'd you win it? [19:02:27] * Khrosk sits down at the table, almost breaking the chair and not noticing, almost whispering to Lucy. "Khrosk tell secret, but..." And then he suddenly yells "but then Kroshk secret be no secret anymore!" [19:03:09] He's got a point. [19:03:24] * Kardos finishes speaking to the innkeepers and comes back to the table, getting some slab-bacon and eggs on the way. :9 [19:03:39] * One of the halflings points Kardos to the table. "Now now, go and talk to your companions!" [19:03:44] * Leo looks at the very zen like fighter and just shrugs sitting back down. [19:04:24] * Everyone has breafkest foodstuffs. Including bacon, eggs, cheese, and breads. [19:04:46] * Kardos consumes, that he may continue growing into a mighty warrior of justice, or something remarkably similar. [19:05:49] * Oh. And JUICE! XD [19:06:24] ( JUICE! XD ) [19:07:02] * Lucy winces and rubs her ear at the yelling, slightly. [19:08:00] * Lucy eats cheerfully. [19:08:24] * Khrosk, satisfied with himself, starts eating... well, everything. [19:09:48] * Leo on risk of losing fingers tries to sneak some food away from the grasping hands and maw of Khrosk. [19:10:00] Now, here's somethign interesting, Khrosk... have you ever thought that you might have a secret that's so secret that even you don't know about it? [19:10:24] * Khrosk shakes his head. "Khrosk got memo." [19:10:50] * Clarissa rolls her eyes. [19:11:02] Oh. Awesome. [19:11:39] * Hank sips at his ale and nibbles at a piece of bacon. He eyes Khrosk. [19:14:16] So, we've got three choices, here. [19:14:26] * Kardos makes sure to keep his food well away from Khrosk. [19:14:27] Well, three good choices, to be more precise. [19:14:56] Ah? [19:15:26] We could go north. Or we could go south. Or we could go to the elves and try to track down more in thier records. [19:16:06] Elves sound interesting, really. If we could find a bunch who aren't so stodgy. [19:17:00] Elves are fun to be around. [19:17:09] I prefer getting all the information I can. [19:18:17] That too. Don't wanna waste any time going on a false lead. [19:19:05] Elves are fascinating, but finding some who aren't 'stodgy' is a challenge. I have family who are elves, but they are soldiers, not loremasters. [19:20:47] As it so happens, it will be a fair bit of travel time, but I know where we can find some people even longer lived than elves, who may or may not remember anything. It's also, likely not coincidentally, relatively close to one of the two origin stories. [19:21:43] [Elven Loremasters, btw, are notoriously snooty. Espically when dealing with shorter-lived races.] [19:22:00] Well then it would be a good place to start, hopefully it's right. [19:22:22] * Kardos blinks. "Longer lived than elves? Do you speak of dragons, Clarissa?" [19:22:23] We're dealing with times in the thousands of years, ehre, Leo. Right and wrong don't really apply anymore. [19:24:38] * Hank picks up a fried egg on the tip of a knife and nibbles at the white. "Well, it makes sense to head to the place where we can learn the most, right?" [19:25:21] * Clarissa makes a balancing motion with her hands. [19:25:29] In this case, I think so. [19:25:33] * Kardos nods. [19:25:57] Think they'd be willing to give info for free, or do we have to earn a favor? [19:26:20] The chances of getting the info for any significantly small price are essentially zero. [19:26:54] Yeah, figured... [19:27:14] * Kardos frowns. "Clarissa. Who will you have us beseech for knowledge?" [19:27:18] So, we have to go find a few mouldy tomes in some rotting towers. [19:27:44] * Clarissa eyes Kardos. [19:28:06] Not beseech. Trade. One does not go begging to the faerie folk. [19:29:31] * Kardos nods. "I see." [19:29:51] * Kardos frowns contemplatively. [19:29:52] * Lucy turns to Hank. "Either that, or get some highly dangerous information first-hand. [19:30:22] * Khrosk starts snoring loudly. [19:30:23] It's quite a distance to travel, though. Weeks of travel time, even for me alone. [19:30:44] [While en-route, you will pass through Oriel.] [19:31:09] What will we be trading? [19:31:23] I don't know, yet. [19:31:31] Hey, highly dangerous sounds interesting. [19:31:46] Dealing with the fey is always interesting. And always dangerous. [19:32:03] Travel sounds rather dull, though, but I'm sure there's some remote villas along the way... [19:32:17] We'll pass through Oriel on the way, actually. [19:32:19] That is a problem now isn't it? [19:32:34] I'll be able to speed our journey significantly, mind. [19:33:00] But... there's really no telling what will happen along the way. And we -will- be approaching the empire. [19:33:12] * Kardos nods. [19:34:29] Hm... never been there before. Should be interesting. Not that I really wanna hang around there any longer than it takes to get a good look at the landscape. [19:40:15] Pack your bags, people. [19:40:18] We're going north. [19:40:19] We leave at dawn. [19:40:29] ...strike that. We leave at two hours past dawn. [19:40:51] * Hank looks dour, then brightens with the clarification. "Much better." [19:40:51] * Kardos nods. [19:42:34] * Clarissa giggles. [19:42:41] I hate mornings, too. [19:42:59] Afternoon is much more civilized. [19:43:48] By the way, don't forget to pack winter clothes. [19:43:54] I just love the whole day. [19:44:53] Glad I thought ahead. [19:47:14] I shall have to buy some. [19:50:30] * Leo (CCDWork@67-43-240-163-cablemodem-roll.fidnet.com) Quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer) [19:51:18] * Leo (CCDWork@67-43-240-163-cablemodem-roll.fidnet.com) has joined #aeoth [19:56:25] Go. [19:57:14] I have some. [19:57:21] Anybody who's not here by two hours after dawn doesn't get to go. [19:57:42] [And with that, you head off and get ready to leave. Two hours past dawn it is!] [20:08:20] * Hank is there, wrapped in his cloak and yawning through a piece of toast. [20:09:11] * Clarissa is there, just finishing up one last good breakfast of potatoes, eggs, and cheese. And milk! [20:09:23] * Lucy is there, a bit ahead of time, eating a breakfast. She's packed well. [20:10:18] * Kardos has finished his breakfast, and is engaging in his morning exercises. He's currently doing handstand push-ups. [20:11:16] * Khrosk stomps down the stairs and looks ready to take on the world! [20:11:42] * Leo shows up with his meager stuff and lots of food prepared. [20:12:28] * Lucy seems to have acquired a shiny new bow. She holds it up a bit. "Gonna be fighting sea beasties part of the way up there, right?" [20:12:48] Possibly. Or pirates. [20:12:55] Either way, a bow is a good idea. [20:14:44] Yeah... I just hope I can earn back what I spent on it. I don't like to talk money much, but... well... nah. Not worth complaining about. [20:14:59] * Lucy cheers up a bit and plucks the bow string to watch it vibrate and make that wonderful noise. [20:15:02] Earning money won't be a problem. [20:15:13] ( Whoop, wrong channel. ) [20:15:36] * Kardos frowns. [20:18:03] I'm sure the bow will more than pay for itself over time, Lucy. [20:18:12] It looks like excellent quality to me, you have a good eye. [20:18:33] Thanks. [20:18:35] * The halfling woman smiles warmly at you as you prepare to leave. "Do take care dearies. Let's hope your little jaunt returns you home safe and sound." [20:18:47] I'm just glad I managed to find a place that'd have it on such short notice. [20:18:50] Thanks! [20:18:59] I'll settle for just getting back here safe and sound, ma'am. [20:20:22] Home is where the gold is. [20:21:11] Let's ride. [20:21:31] * Kardos nods. [20:22:18] [You set out! Brave adventurers into a brave old world!] [20:25:41] * Kardos is brave! As long as there aren't cute girls about. [20:26:02] * Clarissa eyes Kardos. [20:26:22] * Lucy is brave! :D [20:26:42] [Well, the halfling was cute, but not in that way. Definetly huggable.] [20:30:40] [You start on your way to Oriel. Caravans pass you going your direction a bit rarely, only seeing one on the seventh day going the other direction, and one going your direction you pass on the second day. They were going particularly slow, and neither had much to do except with being large and obvious grain caravans. 11 days into the trip (on the 15th of August) in the afternoon, you come across a broken down caravan on the side of the ro [20:31:23] ( on the side of the ro ) [20:31:33] road.] [20:32:03] * Leo goes to investigate them. "Hello!" [20:32:40] * Lucy steps up. "Hey there. Need any help?" [20:33:07] [It's a single-wagon dealie, something a single family would take to move. There is a man standing and looking over the obviously broken wheel of the carrage, and with your "hello!" he turns around almost as if he saw a ghost.] [20:34:37] Ah! Don't DO that! [20:34:45] Don't help you? [20:34:50] If you insist, I suppose. [20:34:57] Ah, sorry about that. [20:34:58] No, don't scare me like that! [20:35:08] We didn't scare you. You scared yourself. [20:36:45] We apologize for startling you, sir. [20:37:17] Yeah, uh, look, sorry. I don't suppose you have a spare wheel or so I could buy? There's just no way I'm going to get this wagon moving without it. [20:38:10] No, but I can sell you a mending for the wheel you've got. [20:39:52] * Leo shoots Clarissa a look. [20:40:59] * Clarissa eyes Leo. "Listen, mister sunny, Guild rules say I have to charge, whether I like it or not." [20:41:29] * Clarissa dismounts. "I'll charge you the minimum for a mending, though. Only five gold." [20:42:50] How much does a wagon wheel normally cost? [20:43:02] * Kardos frowns. "What unusual rules." [20:43:51] I'll do it for free, they are obviously in need of help and I have no guild to follow [20:44:37] Hey, some of the guild mages, they'd happily charge you a hundred or more, out here away from civilization. [20:45:01] * The man looks pressed by Clarissa, but smiles at Leo. "Thank you very much sir... Uh, I'm sorry, you didn't say your name?" [20:45:40] * Clarissa rolls her eyes and mounts up again. [20:46:54] * Kardos tilts his head in curiosity. [20:46:58] * Leo makes a slight bow. "Leo, Cleric of Pelor. Let's see if we can't heal your wheel." He goes over and starts casting make whole. [20:49:10] * The wheel is badly cracked in one location, making it impossable to use. A single mending spell can easily solve the problem. [20:51:47] * Lucy watches with some interest. NEver seen this spell in action before [20:51:58] * Leo stands up after casting. "That should do it." [20:53:03] * The wheel seems to come alive as the parts mold and meld themselves back into a pristine working model of the wagon wheel, the material ceasing to be so 'liquid' when it is properly set again. [20:53:16] Ooh. Pretty. [20:55:08] Thank you so much. *he rushes up to the driver's seat on the wagon.* I'll help you how I can if I ever see you in New Anbor. We need to get going, I're already late! [20:55:20] Good luck! [20:55:22] * Lucy waves [20:55:33] Good luck with that. [20:55:40] * With that he starts moving the wagon at a rapid pace, as if he's trying to outrun something. [20:55:44] Good luck and safe passage! [21:00:34] [The rest of your time to your first destination passes by uneventfully, eventually coming to a head when you reach Oriel. A much older city, originally built by an alliance of dwarves and humans, large runes can be seen on the outer crumbled 'walls' of the city as you approach it from a hilltop. A forgotten memorial on the hilltop signifies the strategic importance of the location, as you can see almost all of the city from this location. [21:01:26] * Lucy takes a moment to admire the view. "Wow." [21:01:48] [These walls actually lie inside the city, as over time the city has expanded beyond several rings of walls. Now, in this time of relative peace, the city is propsering from trade with Inden and Hadoc, as well from other venues from the mainland.] [21:02:29] [Not as much into fishing as New Anbor, this city is clearly built on trade, capitalism, and all the good and evil that comes with it.] [21:07:48] * Kardos looks at the city. If he was gawking at the last city, he's clearly dumbfounded by this one. [21:08:17] This place looks nice. Wouldn't want to live here, but it's not so bad for a visit. [21:08:51] [It's also rumored to have one of the largest and most powerful organized crime rackets in the known world. Of course, those who talk about it don't talk much longer.] [21:09:38] * Kardos looks around. "It's spectacular. The walls alone are amazing." [21:13:35] [We shall continue next session! Session end!] [21:14:14] * Leo is now known as ZZD [21:15:44] * Clarissa is now known as NinjaDebugger [21:15:53] * NinjaDebugger is now known as SleepDebugger [21:20:00] * Disconnected Session Close: Fri Jan 05 21:20:00 2007
