Session Start: Wed Jul 11 18:22:10 2007 Session Ident: #Aeoth [18:22:10] * Now talking in #Aeoth [18:22:10] * Topic is 'Website coming eventually. Keep your pants on. Srsly, keep them on. c.c' [18:22:10] * Set by Zegon on Fri Jun 15 18:25:17 [18:22:12] * Demota is now known as Lucy [18:33:53] [We join our protagonists aboard a ship after they narrowly rescued Khrosk from being taken away and, probably, devoured by a Roc. Fortunately the group was able to knock Krosk out before it flew away. The seas are still a 'bit choppy and the sun is starting to set, but you can see land just over the horizon: It looks like you'll be arriving on the other side by nightfall.] [18:35:41] [Kardos is passed out below decks, and Hank who was below decks has come above to lend another set of eyes to make sure another incident doesn't sneak up quite as badly again. As you may discuss your plans, I'll review what you likely know about your destination city.] [18:35:49] [Session start.] [18:36:57] * Lucy watches the land with interest. [18:37:19] What a great view. Sunset with an island, at sea. [18:38:03] Where did an island come into it? [18:38:20] At least the place is likely to have a decent inn. Without the need for fur-lined undertrousers. [18:39:25] Well, it looks... kinda like one. If you focus. It's the horizon... kinda. [18:39:40] But then, isn't it all just one REALLY BIG island? [18:39:49] Where did we come from? Really big island. [18:40:24] ... [18:40:30] [Your destination city is Nerlam, known as a city of vices in the winter and a major tourist attraction. Unlike its neighboring city accross the seaway, Nerlam is most busy durring the winter due to being the warmest place on the northern continent of Eteru.] [18:40:39] * Clarissa opens her mouth, pauses, and then closes it without saying anything. [18:41:19] * Hank looks at Clarissa, shrugs, and looks back at the land. [18:41:35] * Lucy smiles. [18:42:08] [Gambling is the biggest business there, although it has a thriving black market as well: If you want something, you can find it there, no questions asked... for a price. Despite the heavy snowfall and low temperatures durring the winter, it's still better than the rest of the northern-most cities, and just happens to have a very large mistique that attracts both romantic and realistic types.] [18:43:07] [It's relatively light on actual military defenses, owing its protection to a series of guard troops that protect the city and its waters from anyone stupid enough to get in the way of capitalism.] [18:44:26] [It would probably be wise for the adventurers not to step on any toes while they're in the city, as many toes may look small but end up attatched to a giant.] [18:46:08] Just try not to smoke anything too powerful in that pipe of yours, Lucy. [18:46:35] Yeah, sure thing. Boy, this place looks great. [18:48:07] [And so the ship travels northward. As you approach the city it really is huge. Not in terms of height or coastal space just... huge. Even though it's night you can see tons of lights lighting up the clouds above. People aren't moving about a lot outside, but those that are move extremely quickly. The sale of magic cloaks that protect from cold are *very* prominent here.] [18:48:31] * Minaku (chatzilla@c-24-99-106-107.hsd1.ga.comcast.net) has joined #aeoth [18:48:33] * Schneeble (chatzilla@c-24-99-106-107.hsd1.ga.comcast.net) has joined #Aeoth [18:49:19] * Lucy smiles warmly [18:49:46] I bet there's some serious loot worth having in this place. [18:50:12] [As you pull in the ship is greeted by a patrolling independent, but armed, ship that escorts you to your dock. The captain looks greatful to all of you as you depart the ship and thanks you profusely. [18:50:14] ] [18:53:21] [You are free to do as you wish now that you have disembarked from the ship. Finding a place to sleep should not be hard.] [18:54:16] * Lucy stretches. And tries to readjust to the land. She wobbles a bit. @_@ [18:54:51] [The captain's crew starts unloading the ship.] [18:55:17] Come on, Hank, let's go find a decent inn. [18:55:29] * Hank strides off the boat. "Decent inn and a nice brew sound like a great plan." [18:56:30] You coming, Lucy? [18:56:57] [Khrosk lumbers along behind Clarissa, clearly enthralled by the possibilities of this place.] [18:57:34] Yeah. [18:57:58] * Lucy has been moving a bit slowly. "I'm kinda tall, so my balance has been thrown a little off." [18:58:38] * Khrosk grins and slaps Lucy on the back. HARD. [18:59:48] * Lucy tips over and lands on the ground. "Ow." [19:00:29] Lucy come, Lucy ready to have fun! [19:01:25] * Lucy gets back to her feet. [19:03:06] Wonder what there is to do here. Aside from gaming. [19:03:08] [Into the city you head! A number of inns are available on the main streets, and others are probably findable in more descret locales if you care to look.] [19:04:39] ( discreet ) [19:04:39] [It is also a well known fact that this is one of few places where a mock-up dungeon is located, which allows adventurers to enter and compete, observed by high-paying spectators, to see how far they get for fabulous prizes. The dungeon itself is modeled after an already existing one, from reports anyways, but is considerably safer.] [19:04:43] (thank you) [19:07:43] * Clarissa looks for someplace that's not going to put a big dent in the party coffers if we happen to stay a week or two. [19:08:00] * Hank keeps an eye out for ... special deals. [19:09:53] [After a 'bit of searching, you find an inn called Festival Lodge. It has a star painted with all the colors of the rainbow swirling around on it and looks inviting and cozy, but not opulent or huge enough to be in the 50+ gp/night range.] [19:10:33] This will do. [19:10:37] Oooh. nice. [19:10:43] Hank, you do the arranging, please? [19:11:07] * Hank looks up at the star. "Sure thing. Khrosk get his own room?" [19:11:46] Yeah. [19:11:57] We're not THAT hard up for cash. ...unless he and Lucy want to share, anyway. [19:12:14] * Lucy shrugs. [19:12:23] * Hank turns to look at Lucy, eyebrow raised. [19:12:30] [Kardos didn't come off the ship with you, and it seems he's let his wanderlust get the best of him anyways.] [19:13:30] So that's five rooms. Got it. [19:13:40] * Hank walks on in to FESTIVUS LODGE [19:14:53] [The interior is well-lit as the hostess greets you. The female elf seems surprisingly effecient as she notes you and Hank forward, stepping over to a proper place behind a counter so you can talk to her.] [19:18:26] * Hank walks up to the counter. "Five rooms, for at least tonight and probably for longer." [19:19:02] Okay, how many people will be staying, and do you have any children present? I think I can put you into adjoining rooms. [19:20:32] No children. [19:20:42] * Hank glances to Lucy and back. "Five people, and no children." [19:22:11] Okay, mmhmm... That will be 10 gp a night for all five rooms, breakfast included. *she turns the paper she was writing on over to you and presents you with an ink quill. "If you could sign here and here I can give you the room keys." [19:22:21] Thanks. [19:22:28] * Lucy writes. [19:23:55] * The elf takes the paper and hands Lucy the room keys. "Have a nice stay." She smiles and goes to file the document away. [19:25:06] * Lucy distributes. [19:25:50] * Hank takes his key. "Not too bad." [19:28:00] * Clarissa takes her key, checks the number, and goes looking. [19:28:52] * Lucy searches. By now, she's used to solid ground again [19:29:15] * Hank hunts! [19:29:32] [Up the stairs you go. Apparently it's bigger than it looks on the outside, or these rooms are small... or maybe both. It's about four stories tall, with about 20 rooms on each floor. Apparently the block of building on this block is all this hotel except the lowest floor. Your rooms are on the third floor, all next to eachother.] [19:31:45] [Opening the doors, each of you finds a simple bed, an everburning torch in the room, and a small writing desk with a simple storybook on it, marked by the Church of Baccob. Except Lucy, who is at the furthest end from the stairs...] [19:31:58] * Boonkin licks his fingers, and prepares to turn the next page of the musty tome propped in his lap, when he turns his bespectacled eyes to the opened door with a rather confused look on his face. [19:32:13] Ah, um, I don't recall ordering a courtesan service, young lady. [19:33:06] Dreadfully sorry, your owner must have sent you to the wrong inn. [19:33:15] * Lucy blinks. "Huh, that's weird... no, I'm not one of those. This was supposed to be my room." [19:33:25] * Boonkin furrows his brow [19:33:35] Well, there seems to be a bit of a mix-up then, for this is my room at the moment [19:33:41] * Boonkin sighs [19:33:49] Elves, can't trust them with a ledger or long division [19:33:55] Wanna go talk this over with the inn owners? [19:34:03] Alright [19:34:18] Clarissa's good at this stuff. Lemme grab her too. [19:34:22] * Lucy goes to knock on Clarissa's door. [19:34:24] * Boonkin closes the book, which is slightly larger than him, locking it with the leather straps. [19:34:42] * Boonkin hops off the bed, straightening his leather tunic and adjusting his shaded spectacles [19:37:11] To the main office then, I guess. [19:37:30] Alright [19:38:17] * Clarissa pulls the door open slightly and looks out. [19:38:32] Hey. They assigned me to a room someone else already had. [19:38:36] Wanna help me striaghten this out? [19:40:34] * Clarissa sighs. [19:40:42] They're not going to listen to me, Lucy. Get Hank. [19:41:18] Alright. Sleep well! [19:41:23] * Lucy goes to get Hagnk. [19:41:46] Your friend there's rather young for a wizard these days. Must be a prodigy of sorts, eh? [19:42:17] Oh, absolutely. [19:42:26] She's already talked to a fairy and everything. [19:42:30] * Lucy knocks on Hank's door [19:43:54] * Hank calls out, "Just a damn minute." There's a bit of shuffling and then the door opens just enough for an eye. Then it opens enough for a face. "No thanks, Lucy. Try Khrosk." [19:44:29] Sure thing. [19:44:36] * Lucy goes to knock on Khrosk's door [19:44:43] [Khrosk doesn't respond when his door is knocked.] [19:45:17] * Hank stands there kind of dumbfounded, for a second. [19:45:25] * Boonkin shrugs, and leans in to Hank [19:45:31] "You sure she isn't a courtesan?" [19:46:05] * Lucy frowns. [19:46:18] Alright, so I guess nobody can help us sort out this rooming issue. [19:46:33] Well, the person at the front desk should be able to rectify this situation [19:46:36] * Hank whispers back. "She'd be better trained in the art of conversation if she were." [19:46:46] * Boonkin nods sagely [19:46:48] What's the problem, Lucy? [19:47:23] I opened the door that was supposed to be my room and it was already occupied. [19:47:30] * Boonkin waves [19:47:31] So I went to Clarissa, and she told me to go to you. [19:48:23] * Hank looks at Boonkin. "I see... oh, did she, now. Remind me to thank her later." He closes the door, then opens it a moment later, fastening up his tunic. "It's your name on the contract, but I'll lend you a hand." [19:48:47] Thankyou sir [19:50:33] [Going to the front desk, you find nobody manning it. Nearby in a small basket is a series of small blocks of wood, each with a rune etched on them, that say 'Take one, we will be with you shortly.' How long 'shortly' is can be anybody's guess, though.] [19:50:34] Thanks [19:51:30] * Boonkin takes a block of wood [19:52:41] * Lucy waits. :D [19:52:43] [The block of wood is, uh, a block of wood.] [19:52:49] * Hank looks behind the counter. [19:53:43] * Boonkin hucks a block of wood behind the desk [19:54:02] [The block of wood goes clank against the wall.] [19:54:30] * Boonkin frowns [19:54:36] Wonder where they are all of a sudden [19:54:39] * Boonkin grumps [19:54:59] * Hank leans over the desk and looks for the keys. [19:55:10] I'd just gotten to a good chapter on focusing Scorching Rays through Crystalline Dragonscales [19:56:19] * Boonkin looks outside to see if they're on a smoke break [19:59:34] Lord Io's Breath! You'd think they'd at least leave a Customer Service Golem running at night. [20:00:18] At 2 gold pieces a pop for the rooms, you'd think they'd have the lettuce to do something like that. [20:00:34] ... hm. [20:00:40] * Schneeble (chatzilla@c-24-99-106-107.hsd1.ga.comcast.net) Quit (Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.78.1 [Firefox 2.0.0.4/2007051502]) [20:01:06] * Boonkin blinks [20:01:08] Lettuce? [20:01:48] Money. [20:01:57] Ah, interesting terminology [20:02:13] * Boonkin scribbles on a sheet of notepaper that appears seemingly at random [20:02:45] Weird. [20:03:01] Why Lettuce? [20:03:04] [After about 3 minutes pass, the elf comes in from a side room and looks at you three sanding/sitting there (there are chairs if you cared to use them). She looks a little confused. "I'm sorry, is something the matter?"] [20:03:15] Ah, hi. [20:03:18] Yes, you gave someone my room. [20:03:26] Yep, that pretty much sums it up. [20:03:39] Think, had I been away, and had it not been a reputable lass, my possessions might now be on a ship to the mainland! [20:03:53] * Boonkin throws up his hands, at the last moment snatching his notepad out of the air lest it be hurled aloft [20:04:33] * Hank blinks. "What, are you crazy? Always fence local, you'll sa..." He pauses for a half-second then lets out a couple deep coughs. [20:05:33] Terribly sorry, I'm sorry for any distress this could have caused. I'll see about what I can do to fix things. [20:05:43] * Boonkin nods assuredly [20:05:47] Good, thankyou. [20:06:31] You know, after all the distress - not to mention the wait - a one-night discount might not be out of the question... [20:08:02] * The elf starts writing with some chalk on a surface beneath the counter... "Of course, of course, I don't know how this could have happened." The woman is clearly distressed over the situation. [20:10:52] Even the best bookkeeping systems fail sometime, you know? [20:12:58] Um... so whatdowedo? [20:14:49] Okay, I think I have a solution. Would you like to have your rooms upgraded to the main suite on the fifth floor? There is enough room for your entire party and this young gnome, if he cares to join you; without sharing rooms. The suite is currently available for 10 days, and I can pull some strings to get it for the rate you're paying for your five plus one rooms. [20:15:06] What do you think? [20:15:38] That seems, palatable [20:16:00] Um... [20:16:05] Aren't there only four floors? [20:16:41] The fifth floor is an... exclusive floor. You'll find out when you go there. [20:17:01] ooh. Sounds nice. [20:17:04] Nothing's ever all that it seems on the surface in Nerlam [20:17:06] * Boonkin grins [20:17:32] * Hank raises an eyebrow. "Sounds good to me." [20:18:19] Okay, please gather your companions here so that I may open the door for you and give you your 'keys'. [20:18:33] Lucy? [20:18:43] Sure thing. [20:18:54] * Lucy goes to grab Clarissa. "We're getting an upgrade." [20:20:08] * Clarissa sighs, but luckily hasn't unpacked much yet, and gathers her things. A few minutes later, she comes downstairs, with a tiny black puppy at her heels. [20:20:42] * Hank collects his things in the meantime. [20:23:07] By the way, I'm sorry for the inconvenience [20:23:14] * Boonkin holds out a tiny hand to shake Lucy's hand [20:23:27] * Lucy holds hers out and shakes. Softly. [20:23:31] I'm Boonkiniferous Aluminiumphosphate the Third, at your service. Most people just call me Boonkin. [20:23:46] Gotcha. [20:23:56] [After you are gathered together downstairs (Khrosk managed to come in through the front door pretty drunk up and enjoying himself), the Elf takes a small talisman and places it in a small engraving in a small crystal statue of a bugbear. Touching it she speaks a few short elven words and to you, a door appears in front of you in a pearl arch.] [20:24:01] * Hank blinks. "Oh, you'll like Clarissa." [20:24:34] Why will he like me? [20:25:06] Oooh. [20:25:25] Interesting [20:25:26] There are servants inside to cater to your desires, both of the invisible and the *clears her throat* other type. Make sure to leave at least once a day, however. [20:25:35] After you introduce yourself, anyhow. Hey, neat. [20:25:44] Ah... sure. WHat happens if we don't? [20:26:46] People sometimes get lost of the passage of time inside and we have to oust them by force. [20:26:55] Aah. Gotcha. [20:27:05] Good to know [20:27:11] * Boonkin scritches away on the notepad [20:32:02] * Lucy steps in [20:32:20] * Hank walks on in. [20:32:27] * Clarissa goes on in, then! [20:33:19] * Boonkin goes on, dragging a large bag o' books [20:34:57] [Lucy is greeted by a large greeting hall. It looks like it really is on the 5th, non-existant, floor of the building with plenty of doorways out of the frontal eating area. Two halls extend, one left and one right, to two smaller rooms. Probably for entertaining guests or other such things. There are eight bedrooms in the suite, two of them larger than the other six: each can comfortably sleep 2 people, 4 if you cram.] [20:35:22] Oh, wow... [20:36:29] [There are two bathrooms, complete with fully functioning baths and hot water. The colors are generally vibrant reds and golds, with silver interlaced as well. If a surface can be made better by cushioning it, it's cushioned or carpeted.] [20:36:53] * Boonkin lets out a long low whistle [20:36:54] Ritzy [20:37:15] Sigel, make a note of that spell. I need to learn it. [20:37:26] Now THIS is an inn. [20:37:33] * Sigel barks in response and smiles. [20:38:05] Huh. I didn't think dogs could smile like that. ... well, I mean they smile, but not like that. [20:38:25] * Boonkin O_o [20:38:34] What ever made you think Sigel was a dog? [20:39:17] * Clarissa turns to look (barely) down at Boonkin. [20:40:12] * Hank wanders into a bedroom with his stuff. [20:40:21] * Boonkin shrugs and picks a random room to haul his library too [20:40:50] * Clarissa shrugs and goes to grab a room for herself, then, before the best ones are gone. [20:40:55] * Khrosk drunkenly heads off to a random room and konks out. [20:42:16] * Lucy goes to a room to get some nice sleep. [20:45:21] [And so our heroes sleep. Session end!] [20:46:16] * Boonkin sleeps for justice [20:46:55] * Lucy sleepss [20:48:08] * Hank (chamelaeon@ip68-225-175-166.om.om.cox.net) Quit (Quit: ) [20:49:40] * Clarissa is now known as NinjaDebugger [20:49:44] * Zegon (zegond@c-24-15-245-98.hsd1.il.comcast.net) has left #Aeoth [20:49:49] * Lucy is now known as Demota [20:51:23] * NinjaDebugger (amakoto@ip72-213-61-8.om.om.cox.net) has left #Aeoth [20:58:44] * Boonkin (isawa_chuc@ip68-225-143-174.om.om.cox.net) Quit (Quit: ) [21:08:09] * Minaku (chatzilla@c-24-99-106-107.hsd1.ga.comcast.net) Quit (Quit: Yes sir Captain Tightpants.) Session Close: Wed Jul 11 21:22:55 2007
