Session Start: Mon Jan 20 10:15:15 2003 Session Ident: #D&D [10:15:15] * Now talking in #D&D [10:15:15] * Topic is 'Campaign 1: Thursdays 9PM EST; http://w4jdh.net/~mandoric/dnd/campaign1/ ; Possible cancellation Jan 23 | Campaign 2: Saturdays 5PM EST; http://pages.sbcglobal.net/schneeble/NorthRPG/ | For the Shiiiiiiiiiire! *humphumphumphumphumphumphumphump*' [10:15:15] * Set by Schneeble on Sun Jan 19 15:39:12 [23:08:51] Okay, here's the basics. Evil dragons and good dragons fight each other. [23:08:59] But that's a side thought, for now. [23:09:02] Evil dragons and good dragons from each world decide that this is kinda pointless. [23:09:15] Evil dragons and good dragons decide to take turns ruling the galaxy. [23:09:47] One color of dragon would rule for a millenium, then the next color. The good dragons agreed because there's no way in hell a civilization could last for six thousand years. [23:09:55] Good dragons were wrong. Dead wrong. [23:10:27] The galaxy has been under the rule of the Red Dragon Mezzenbone for centuries, and things are pretty bad. [23:10:53] Any questions? [23:11:32] Nope. [23:11:40] Alrighty. [23:11:49] Anyway, the Drow act as Mezzenbone's secret police. [23:12:18] A law created at the beginning of the Dragon Empire also makes it illegal to kill someone because of their alignment. [23:12:31] They have to actually DO something evil before something can happen. [23:12:40] I have a question. What are the playable races, and how do their roles change from fantasy? [23:12:48] Playable races... [23:13:24] Human, Dwarf, Elf, Halfling, Gnome, Half-Elf, Half-Orc, Soulmech, Orc, Half-Dragon [23:13:57] The humans are, as usual, the rats of the galaxy. They're short-lived and breed constantly, filling a bunch of places and becoming really, really numerous [23:14:05] They're more or less unchanged. [23:15:03] * Charles nods. [23:15:28] The Dwarves... hm. [23:15:45] They once had a great empire before the Dragons came along, but the Orcs came along and wrecked it. [23:16:07] They dream of uniting under the banner of a single dwarf again, but they're really too busy with other things [23:16:50] Dwarves actually get along with everyone pretty well not counting orcs, even elves. [23:18:06] * Charles nods, and idles for hygeine. Keep going, please. [23:18:50] Elves are ill-suited for space travel, but they've become pretty successful. They're also brilliant bio-scientists. They get along with people pretty well, although they don't care much for dwarves or gnomes, because they feel they represent uncontrolled industrialization [23:19:48] They usually prefer to live on planets that have been set aside and protected from development. [23:20:22] Oh yeah. Elves also dislike orcs. [23:20:55] Gnomes... they're pretty much jovial tinkerers. They don't have any real political presence, but they can get along with even drow. [23:21:27] They also like magic, and are some of the more successful technomages. [23:22:02] Half-elves... well, there's not much to say about them. [23:22:48] However, they aren't always the tragic figures they once were. Not totally isolated, at least. Some of them have set up half-elf enclaves in cities so they can live among their own kind [23:24:43] Now, Half-Ocs.. these guys don't really have much political power at all. Not many people like them, although humans and half-elves get along with them fine [23:24:52] Even orcs don't really think much of them [23:25:12] However, they tend to have successful careers in military ventures. [23:25:37] The savagery of the orc side and the discipline of the human side combine to create the perfect soldier. [23:26:49] They tend to be independent figures, as they have no lands of their own and not many people will care about them [23:27:13] Halflings are more or less the same. They make great pilots, though [23:27:27] Computer programming is another thing they're good at [23:27:39] They just do well at working hard [23:28:05] They also don't mind people who don't think they're a real threat in a fight. [23:28:20] Mostly because a gun in the hands of a halfling is just as dangerous as a gun in the hands of a hulking orc. [23:29:31] Drow... well, they're the elites of the Dragonstar Empire. A few get really fed up with all the backstabbing and treachery, though. [23:29:45] They mostly stick around their own kind. [23:30:22] For the most part, they're horribly, horribly evil. Although there is the rare good one. [23:31:19] The half-dragon... the dragons are in charge of the galaxy. Half-dragons are usually spawned from their various affairs. [23:32:13] They have scales, snake eyes, huge teeth and claws, and elongated faces. They may have a tail, and may have wings, but those two won't do anything for the most part. [23:33:06] Dragons usually have a huge fund somewhere to pay for whatever children they may have. The half-dragon is almost always raised by the non-dragon parent. [23:33:43] Most of them are pretty much spoiled guys raised with a silver spoon in their mouth, living in luxury and sitting around doing nothing but whatever the upper classes do. [23:34:09] The adventuring ones are usually the ones who want to prove that they're more than just the child of a dragon, and they can do things on their own. [23:35:11] Next... the orc. [23:35:25] Zug-zug. [23:35:32] Orcs are crude, aggressive, and war-like. [23:35:59] They often fight amongst themselves, but they'll band together for short periods of time to fight other guys. [23:36:29] They see other orcs as better than the other races, though. [23:37:02] Orcs have little use for politeness, but enjoy drinking, fighting, wrestling, partying, dancing, and feasting with wild abandon. [23:38:10] They don't get along with anyone, really. The best kind of race is the orc. And nobody else is orcy enough. Although they respect the Drow, they feel the drow spend too much time plotting and scheming and oughta spend more time busting skulls [23:38:57] They usually live in tightly-knit clans, and it would take something pretty big for them to leave. [23:39:12] Still, orcs tend to be impulsive, and may leave a clan just because someone else said they couldn't. [23:40:01] Finally, the Soulmech. It's someone who died, but chose to be revived inside a robotic shell. [23:41:15] Now, classes. [23:41:26] The barbarian is selectable, but really not reccomended. [23:42:08] Mostly because it's "Oh, I used to have these weapons, but now i have to use these other weapons" [23:42:12] Or something like that [23:42:54] They start out having ot use primitive weapons, although they can learn to use guns and such on the next level they gain [23:43:21] Bards... these are pretty much musical stars now. [23:43:27] They enjoy vast popularity. [23:44:07] A bard with a headset microphone and a nice set of portable speakers can do nifty stuff [23:44:39] Clerics... well, more or less the same. Worship a god, pray, get nifty powers. [23:45:32] The druids are still around, and see nature among the very stars themselves. [23:45:43] Many of them study in life science fields. [23:46:03] They wish to protect nature, as always [23:47:02] A druid who chooses NOT to take the Technical Proficiency feat for free can't use guns, computers, etc. However, his spells are cast as if they are one level higher [23:47:24] A fighter is a fighter is a fighter. [23:47:30] Guy with weapon that makes things fall down [23:48:41] The monk... still around, and monastaries have been popping up in weird places, like inside asteroids, away from noise and civilization. [23:49:06] They usually won't be using modern equipment such and guns. [23:49:09] As, even [23:50:03] The Paladin is an elite soldier. Often operating in special forces teams. [23:50:52] He can't call for a mount anymore, but the church pays for his spellware implants. [23:51:14] I assume the Monks are powered up? I can't see 5d20 non-elemental bashing beating 20d10 elemental piercing, except against things with varios resistances. [23:51:15] blargh, (5d20) 59; (20d10) 102. [23:51:20] I don't know. [23:51:27] Rangers are explorers of newly-discovered worlds, and are in tune with nature and such [23:52:00] Rangers can also now select favored terrain [23:52:02] * Satsuki (joshua@adsl-156-66-12.asm.bellsouth.net) has left #d&d [23:52:35] Rogues are the same as always, except they have greater than average technical knowledge. [23:53:05] Sorcerers are treated as upper-class guys because of the whole dragon thing. [23:53:59] Wizards have a vast online network of spells they can look into, and carry PDAs instead of hefty spellbooks now. There's slight discrimination against them, but nothing really huge. [23:54:16] Finally, there are two new classes. [23:54:20] The Pilot and the Mechanist. [23:54:25] ... okay, are there any questions? [23:54:43] What're the Orc racial modifiers? [23:55:08] +4 strength, -2 intelligence, -2 wisdom, -2 charisma [23:55:48] Hrum. [23:56:07] * Charles is half-considering playing an Orc with no combat ability. [23:56:11] Question, as raised before, about Monks. ^^; Also the one as raised elsewhere about price-per-shot of ammo. [23:56:52] Right. Looking that up. [23:57:23] Hm. Also, orcs suffer minor penalties in brightly-lit areas. however, I'm going to rule that wearing sunglasses, which are for some reason listed in equipment, will nullify that [23:57:29] Like, say, an Orc raised by another race who became a Bard/pop-star through sheer novelty value. [23:58:23] ...And I just got a *motherfucker* of a stat roll. [23:58:41] Please roll in #Dice. ^^; [23:58:49] 17, 11, 18, 16, 8, 14. [23:58:55] Ah. [23:59:11] Say, are we rolling stats, or doing the point-based thing? [23:59:23] Hm... [23:59:44] Most likely rolling, but the point-based thing may be interesting. I'll have to look up more info on it Session Close: Tue Jan 21 00:00:00 2003
