Start of #Exalted buffer: Wed Dec 16 20:32:21 2009 [16:59:06] So guys, I'll make you a deal [16:59:25] DOOR NUMBER 2! [16:59:28] 2! [16:59:35] Cha, you get me the Heroquest material [16:59:36] NO WAIT! 1! [17:00:13] And if it doesn't mechanically melt my brain, I will run a short Heroquest campaign [17:00:17] But it'd also be about ten hours of being really uncomfortable and being yelled at by people who can't speak english, and working in the dishroom getting sprayed by two hundred degree mist and caustic chemicals [17:00:31] Aw man. I knew I shoulda picked three. I knew it. [17:00:57] :O [17:01:00] And maybe if I like running it enough it'll be a longer campaign [17:02:09] Cool [17:02:13] * Demota is now known as Aurora [17:02:16] * ChanServ sets mode: +o Aurora [17:02:17] 1d20 [17:02:17] Aurora rolls 1D20: 3 [17:02:19] Welp [17:02:20] Because I need an RPG that I don't have some ginormous attachment to the setting to curb my worst GMing tendencies, and I need GMing practice, and this seems like a good fit, since both Dem and Cha want to actually play [17:02:26] :D [17:02:35] I got my PDF from /rs/ on 4chan [17:02:50] But when I go there now, all I get is a page that says "It works!" [17:02:59] Which is interesting because it CLEARLY doesn;t [17:03:07] Yeah, same here [17:03:09] heh [17:03:11] me too [17:03:23] Charles, maybe you could put it into a dropbox and share the folder with everyone? [17:03:28] Oh, wait. I don't think the other shave dropbox [17:04:27] Toss it to me, and I'll put it on my webspace [17:04:34] * Darkheart is now known as Mauz [17:06:48] Mariiiii~ [17:06:52] Phanos [17:07:32] I'm gonna check #RPG-Books first to see if they have a scan of the second edition corebook first [17:08:56] Woah, that's weird. Audiosurf has a new Steam store icon. [17:10:10] Yon, ready for game? [17:10:10] Whoop, mom's in a good mood today. :unsmith: [17:10:19] And where's Phanos? [17:10:32] Within answering distance of his phone, I hope [17:10:52] Hosting GT [17:11:35] Oh, any progress on making a Roll Through the Ages underlay? I think that'd help SO much [17:11:48] Roll THrough the Ages? [17:11:57] It's a civilization dice game [17:12:24] ah [17:12:45] No progreess. [17:12:54] It's pretty fantastic [17:13:04] Gimme the image again and I'll make one [17:13:05] We can probably play it while we wait for Phanos. :| [17:13:27] And Mari [17:14:33] Hey Dem, I don't think you uploaded last session's log? [17:14:40] ... i'm pretty sure I did. :( [17:14:43] (Oh, also, the name of the campaign is "Sharn and Beyond" [17:14:58] Oh, huh, you did. [17:15:07] I didn't realize the last time we played was 12/2 [17:15:17] I saw that and was like "okay, where's the one after that?" [17:16:45] http://images.freddistribution.com/photo1/huge/101119.jpg [17:17:02] Covered number is 4 for cloth [17:17:55] * Aurora nods [17:18:34] Man, it's fascinating how that picture and the scoresheet literally give enough information to play the game, barring the sale of goods [17:18:41] Which was the one thing that tripped me up [17:18:43] Yeah [17:22:23] Alright, so I found the second edition book, which presents the Heroquest system as a generic one. I also have the first edition book (For the actual Heroquest edition, so the mechanics aren't bullshit), which has world info [17:22:54] * LostInTangents is now known as Phanos [17:22:58] :3 [17:23:00] I am hereish [17:23:03] * Aurora dances around Phanos [17:23:06] * Aurora dances around Mauz. [17:23:21] Alright, now where's Mari? [17:23:30] Xen'drik [17:23:42] :V [17:24:04] http://i49.tinypic.com/v5fh5l.jpg oh my god [17:24:13] Well, the new book has world info [17:24:19] But it's only 20ish pages [17:24:24] Which might not be bad [17:24:52] aargh. So I have a design in mind for the underlay. [17:25:15] I could create it in illustrator, but I'm not sure how to transform it into a photoshop thing [17:25:37] Oh man, neat. [17:25:46] The Heroquest 2 book has a section on creating genre packs [17:25:52] Genre packs sound addictive [17:26:01] Like, the information you give to your players to brief them on the way a given world works [17:28:04] And stuff like the keywords of the world (Keywords being, like, over-abilities that give characters a bunch of stuff they can do for being in an archtype) [17:28:09] Ugh, sorry, here. I'm a bit outta it right now :/ [17:28:29] It says that for most settings, keywords might not be necessary. Like, everyone knows what elves and wizards can do [17:28:33] Or what a sherrif does [17:28:58] But when Glorantha has shit like Humakti weaponthanes, ducks as a sentient race, and all these other things, it becomes necessary to have solid explanations [17:29:02] I had a doctor's appointment today and they blasted the motherfucking wax out of my ears with water, so I'm kinda disoriented [17:29:12] Damn [17:29:13] * Yon is now known as Marianysa [17:29:24] I'm hoping they give guidelines for doing the 'solid explanation' thing with other settings [17:29:26] Geez [17:30:05] Alright [17:30:08] Everyone here? [17:30:14] Yon, Rusty, Dem, DH? [17:31:01] Persona [17:31:38] I'm here now [17:32:52] But I may be kind of :downs: today as a result (which is an asset for Youkai but not Sharn :V ) [17:33:10] heh [17:34:04] WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA---IwaswaitingforSharntoalertme. [17:34:35] np, we just started [17:34:36] Like I said, hereish. [17:34:43] Gimme a second, I'm just getting in. [17:34:53] hahaha [17:34:54] I'll join in in full swing in just a few. [17:35:15] I like how Aurora just randomly goes "UGH!" when she's probably been trudging through this weather for at least a day now. [17:36:04] To be fair, it IS a very teenage girl thing to do [17:36:10] Yeah [17:36:11] As far as the archetype of teenage girls goes [17:37:16] heh [17:42:44] Oh man, I really like how Heroquest 2e describes what can be abilities [17:42:53] "If you can solve a problem with it, it's an ability" [17:43:22] ooh [17:47:36] Okay, now I'm here here. [17:49:00] ...Huh. It's explicitly stated that in Heroquest, every ability is mechanically identical to every other ability [17:49:11] Which makes sense, but it's not something you see directly stated [17:49:17] Huh. Yeah. [17:49:32] Was it an issue in older editions that they felt a need to clarify? [17:49:48] Maybe, since it WAS an RPG in the 70s at first [17:50:08] But I think it might just be a reaction to how some RPGs will have subsystems for various attributes [17:50:15] Like the diplomacy matrix in D&D3 [17:50:55] brb, phonecall with mom who misses me lots [17:51:00] In Heroquest, using your Strong Family Ties ability to calm your children down is mechanically the same to using your Robotic Sex Criminal ability to fuck an alarm clock [17:51:06] hahahahahaha [17:52:09] So, um, someone wanna tell me whats going on? [17:52:15] It's raining and we're in mud [17:52:40] Deep mud. [18:00:20] back [18:00:39] sorry, hadn't spoken to my mom in a month and she finally got ahold of me after trying for a few days [18:00:42] I will admit I like playing Mauz as he is: someone pretty much aware he's on borrowed time. Or probably shouldn't even exist. [18:00:43] Aaaah. [18:00:45] How is she? [18:00:59] She's despressed cause this is the first christmas she won't have me there [18:01:03] :( [18:01:06] Does she have a webcam? [18:01:09] I always came home for the holidays when I was in college [18:01:11] Nah [18:01:11] Maybe you all can get webcams. [18:02:08] Awwwww. :( [18:03:41] Hey, Rusty? Does the huge underlay I dragged in load for you? [18:04:35] Big Fuck-Off Statue? [18:04:41] No, that's a pog [18:04:48] No. [18:04:51] Off to th eleft, it should just be a bunch of lines and circles [18:04:52] I'm looking at it. [18:04:57] BIG FUCK-OFF STATUE. [18:05:03] I just want to make sure it doesn't display as a big question mark or other error [18:05:09] It's not an actual underlay, it's just a test. [18:05:23] Do you see it, or don't you? [18:05:29] (I like how the Director is Gabe.) [18:05:34] Do you see it, or don't you? [18:05:42] The white underlay? [18:05:44] With circles? [18:05:50] Yeah [18:05:54] I see it. [18:05:55] So it displays fine? [18:06:01] Alright, perfect [18:06:10] Removed it [18:06:16] Underlays work fine. [18:16:41] Okay. [18:16:49] As you guys approach this gigantic tower.... [18:16:58] We get an extended rest? [18:17:06] Picture one of the twin towers. [18:17:16] A straight rectangle from ground to top. [18:17:44] Now picture it from the vantage point of a mouse on the sidewalk next to it. [18:18:04] D: [18:18:15] Allothu Ackbar [18:18:22] ? [18:18:36] Allolthu, rather [18:19:04] The idea of one of the twin towers in Xen'drik made me think of drow terrorists hijacking dragons into them [18:20:29] ...That might've actually happened during the Giant/Dragon wars, when the elves rebelled. :V:V:V [18:20:54] Dragons all bonking into obsidian towers and being all "WHAT THE FUCK" [18:23:57] heh [18:26:10] Anyone know Giant? [18:26:17] Oh right, no one [18:26:58] Nope, Draconic and Primordial made too much sense to pass up here, sir [18:27:08] For Phanos, at least. [18:27:12] Can you tell us out of character what he's saying anyways? :| [18:28:00] Then I'd have to tell you what Cavarete Libiel Shakaroz is too. [18:29:21] Someone remind me to cast comprehend language. [18:43:41] ...That's an interesting art design choice. One of the pictures in Heroquest 2e's section on Glorantha is anime art [18:43:59] Maybe they're intentionally trying to move it away from hoary 1970s grognard limbo [18:45:40] huh [18:45:42] Yeah [18:48:17] Temper: "Yeah, mauz sucks! :V" [18:53:22] Huh. [18:53:23] You can create feats that are appropriate [18:53:24] to the myths of your cult. A feat should be [18:53:24] described in about 50 to 100 words that [18:53:24] gives the scope of its powers and any [18:53:24] restrictions on its use. [18:53:24] Darvargast is a devotee of Helamakt [18:53:25] and knows the Sivin Feat. This is the [18:53:25] event where Helamakt defeated the elves [18:53:27] by blinding them and then burning down [18:53:27] their forests with lightning and winds. [18:53:29] When Darvargast invokes this feat, he [18:53:29] rises into the air, can blind elves, hurl [18:53:31] down mighty lighting bolts against their [18:53:31] woods, and fan fires with his winds. [18:53:33] Everything he does as Helamakt is a [18:53:33] very specific ability, which makes it [18:53:35] extremely difficult for the elves to [18:53:35] defend against him. [19:01:42] Interesting. Every Heroquest character has several runes that're associated with them, and those runes have associated personality traits and the like [19:01:50] That seems like a neat shorthand for making a character [19:02:35] huh [19:03:42] They're also associated with the gods. Like, Orlanth, who's the Heortling father-god, has the Air, Movement, and Mastery runes. [19:05:26] But a character who's generous, lustful, implusive, proud, and reckless might have the Fertility, Air, and Disorder runes associated with them [19:05:40] Which, if they're a theist, makes actions involving those runes easier [19:06:00] Someone born with the Air rune finds it easier to succeed at impulsive action than someone with the Earth rune, which is more domestic [19:07:39] Oh, wait, there are four types of runes. Element, Power, Form, and Condition. Only the first two have associated personality traits and the like [19:09:36] (Power is stuff like fertility, death, deception, form is stuff like man, beast, and plant, and condition is mastery, magic, communication (Which has traits, oddly enough), and moon) [19:17:10] Huh. It's assumed that characters in Heroquest are tied to their community rather than wandering adventurers [19:17:36] huh [19:17:41] Makes sense. That's how heroes start [19:17:57] Yeah. And it works with the whole bronze age thing [19:18:33] Most of the time, heroes are in service to the community, because if they're not the community is probably eaten by walktopuses and other chaos spawn [19:18:45] Walktopi sound terrifying [19:22:32] http://www.sciencenewsforkids.org/articles/20050831/Feature1.asp [19:23:02] http://www.teamfortress.com/images/posts/poster_1st.jpg Propaganda contest winner [19:25:37] http://armorcast.com/store/images/3018-Walktapus.jpg This is what they look like in Glorantha, I was searching for the wrong spelling [19:25:44] Hahahah [19:28:32] http://zip.4chan.org/v/src/1261017254960.png This is your next NPC guide. :V [19:28:52] o.o [19:29:23] Mauz wishes. [19:34:23] Damn right he does! [19:34:46] (Her stone vision does not work anymore. It instead just makes you blush uncomfortably.) [19:34:53] o.o [19:34:55] Also, winners for the TF2 propaganda contest! [19:35:00] IN THE FRUIT [19:38:02] 1d20+16 1d8 [19:38:02] Phanos rolls [ 1D20+16: 2 +16 = 18 ] [ 1D8: 8 ] = 26 [19:38:03] 1d20+16 1d8 [19:38:03] Phanos rolls [ 1D20+16: 7 +16 = 23 ] [ 1D8: 2 ] = 25 [19:38:40] Wow, those were actually the same or worse than your passives :V [19:39:04] I know, man, but I'm going to keep doing this anyway. [19:39:12] Because I'm trying to be a smart player here. [19:39:49] no prob [19:39:56] http://angryhosting-east.mirror.waffleimages.com/files/5b/5bd7a223eeb74a49f4ce349268a49f3f9dd8e743.jpg hahahahahah [19:40:10] Everything seems pretty quiet. [19:40:16] Looks like no one's come in some time. [19:54:55] We insult ugly people to their faces! [19:55:24] Note Mauz didn't. :V [19:55:43] (Part tact, part 'I'd be more worried about her ripping something off'.) [19:56:01] haha [19:56:04] Aurora didn't either [19:56:21] I swear to christ, I've seen those four lines twice before [19:56:28] I just got double-deja-vu [19:58:30] So Which four? [19:59:46] Note Mauz didn't. :V [19:59:46] (Part tact, part 'I'd be more worried about her ripping something off'.) [19:59:46] haha [19:59:46] Aurora didn't either [20:00:31] Dammit! [20:00:45] What're you gonna do with that salt?! [20:00:48] * Aurora pokes DH with a fork. [20:00:55] OW. [20:01:06] Heeeeeeeeeeeey DH. HeroQuest. You interestd? [20:01:12] What? [20:01:16] HRM. [20:01:18] Perhaps! [20:01:29] You never know dude, you just never know. [20:01:31] duly noted. [20:01:41] Yeah, we could use it as souvenier, I dunno [20:01:54] When the moment comes that the jar of salt is needed, it will be fucking epic. [20:02:25] It'll be like, a year from now. [20:02:35] Like, when you need to dry out a LOT of meat, or you're in a cooking contest and you need to make sweet thigns more interesting? [20:02:54] "I have.... SEA SALT!" [20:02:59] * NovaSeaker crosses off all oozes and slug swarms off his encounter list. [20:03:10] We just so happen to have a large vial of sea salt from the kitchen of the giants of Xen'drik [20:03:14] Don't forget old people [20:03:17] Old people can't eat salt [20:03:22] What if we get into a fight with some snails? [20:03:36] Yep. [20:03:40] I got this. [20:03:44] * NovaSeaker crosses off the flailsnails too. [20:04:45] http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3211884 Here's that King of Dragon Pass LP [20:04:50] The one set in Glorantha [20:05:19] This feels like that teamfortress map. [20:05:28] Noooooo, not the flail snails! [20:08:01] 1d20+16 1d8 [20:08:01] Phanos rolls [ 1D20+16: 13 +16 = 29 ] [ 1D8: 1 ] = 30 [20:08:03] 1d20+16 1d8 [20:08:03] Phanos rolls [ 1D20+16: 7 +16 = 23 ] [ 1D8: 1 ] = 24 [20:10:17] http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/462337/antenna-azusa-bee_girl-brown_hair-dark_skin-elbow_ [20:12:36] http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/sx_gallery/98396.jpg [20:12:49] YOU SHALL NOT HAVE THE ROYAL JELLY! [20:13:50] http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/279723/al_bhed_eyes-beedrill-drill-msh-nintendo-parody-po GIGAAAAAAAAAA [20:15:22] Are we good with ending here? [20:15:30] Yeah. [20:15:33] 'Fun exploring. [20:15:36] I like exploring. [20:15:37] Yay [20:15:54] I figured you guys needed a break after a two-session long combat. [20:16:03] Hey Novaaaaa. Novaaaaaaaa. Novaaaaaaaaa. You wanna try HeroQuest? :| [20:16:08] Not really. :| [20:16:14] Man. [20:16:23] Why not? :/ [20:16:36] Maybe it's just the chronic depressing talking but that literally makes me sad. [20:16:41] Aformentioned rules slush in brain. [20:16:47] We can help you. [20:16:48] The poster contest thing's gotten a nice shitstorm going. [20:16:52] Yeah [20:18:09] Oh god, Temper's a snatcher [20:18:15] His mouth cannon's gonna flare up [20:18:31] haha [20:18:35] nah he's just imitating a smile [20:18:58] Man, I tried to think of caveman speak to represent Nova's fear of new systems and I got as far as "Fire cook food so food no have maggot", and I CAN'T remember what that's from. [20:19:08] It's also not relevant, because it's a caveman trying new things. :( [20:19:13] vermisilitude [20:19:22] http://twitter.com/Akelaa/status/1374567472 [20:19:31] The ONLY hit on google for that phrase [20:19:40] Yeah, which is kind of weird [20:19:52] I *think* it might have been from MST3k [20:19:56] * Aurora nods [20:20:07] * Marianysa is now known as Yon [20:20:11] * Aurora is now known as Demota [20:20:22] Everyone enjoy themselves? [20:20:22] But if it was, it seems odd that its only occurances on the Internet are my brain-droppings and one person's Twitter [20:20:24] Yeah [20:20:33] Cha: Definitely [20:20:50] Nova: it's a simple system, if that helps any. [20:21:00] And it wouldn't be a longterm thing [20:21:00] Yeah [20:21:09] And you'd be helping Yon warm up to running again [20:21:32] I am enjoying playing Mari's smartass side again. [20:21:38] haha [20:21:42] Yeah, glad to see her cheer up [20:21:59] yeah :) [20:22:17] Yeah, it was fun. I wonder if we get to take a waterslide down. [20:22:30] Hahaha [20:22:45] There has to be some dramatic, exciting way down. [20:22:56] Why? [20:22:56] Otherwise the way up was totally not worth it. [20:23:02] You got reagents. [20:23:06] How many players is HeroQuest built for, anyway? [20:23:10] YEAH, NOW WE CAN SNORT IT [20:23:10] Because you gave us a really dramatic ascent. [20:23:21] hahahahahaha [20:23:25] I did? [20:23:30] Think about it as like a scene from Final Fantasy [20:23:35] Climbing the tower of Zozo. [20:23:40] Or whatever that thing was called. [20:23:43] Dem: No real idea [20:23:49] That wasn't dramatic! That was tedius! :V [20:23:53] You've got all that character banter as they're climbing. [20:23:59] Yeah that I enjyoed [20:24:11] That's sort of like what this was. [20:24:17] heh. [20:24:27] Think of it as a loading screen in Mass Effect. :| [20:24:58] I dunno what those are. [20:25:04] * NovaSeaker stares at his Steam icon. [20:25:07] (elevators) [20:25:19] Oh, like Metroid Prime End of #Exalted buffer Wed Dec 16 20:32:21 2009
