Start of #Odal buffer: Mon Aug 04 21:35:27 2008 [17:45:03] * Mechazawa is now known as Xan [17:47:00] * Last time, you had just chosen to investigate the sluices, where the seawater enters Harborhead. You find them easily, and when you get there, you find four guardsman standing by the building, a squat, short building that spans a canal, talking amongst themselves. There's a sense of worry in the air. [17:48:55] "Odd. They seem unnerved." [17:50:48] [Session start] [17:53:17] Hm? What about? [17:55:16] "I don't know, it's simply the impression I get." [17:55:57] * One of the guardsmen looks up and walks over. "You, you all look like people of action. Could we trouble you for a moment?" [17:56:09] * Paera blinks. "Is something wrong?" [17:57:52] * "It's... Well, I wish I could say it's hardly anything. But every month or so, we send a guardsman down to deal with the gobs in the overflow, and it's been a few days, and Halen still haven't come back. We were trying to decide who should go down and look for them when the four of you showed up." [18:02:41] Well... [18:02:48] * Paera looks back at the group. [18:03:21] I have nothing else to do. [18:03:23] "I'd be happy to help." [18:04:29] * Eve nods. "It seems like the right thing to do." [18:04:38] Perhaps we'll find something interesting down there. Like a crocodile. [18:05:39] ...yeah. I'm sure that's what we'll find. [18:06:29] * The guardsman nods. "Do you have torches? There used to be everburning ones down there, but they disappeared about the times the maintenance gobs settled down in there." [18:06:51] Oh yes. [18:08:05] * Eilenia pulls out a torch. She speaks a few words, and it starts to glow with an arcane light. [18:10:01] * "Oh, terrific." He begins walking towards the building and motions for the group to follow. "You'll be going down into the overflow. It connects to the sewer, but it's just seawater at this point, and whatever the gobs put in. Still, better than going into the old Nerathi sewer, eh? Anyways, there'll be a junction about a hundred feet down, where they set up their first camp. Straight shot, shouldn't be too hard to find." [18:11:46] * He bows slightly. "If you can find out what happened to Halen, the guards of Harborhead'll be in your debt. We can't rightly afford much, but there's some old Nerathi gear that used to belong to the Knight Protector, back afore he died, in the armory, if it interests you." [18:12:38] We'll take care of it, don't worry. [18:18:32] * The guard nods. "Thank you, ma'am." He takes out a key and opens a lock on the building's door. The door swings open and he motions you inside. [18:18:34] * Paera turns back to the group and nods. "Shall we get going?" [18:18:56] * Xan nods, motioning for her to lead the way. [18:19:00] Certainly [18:22:05] * The sluice building is fairly plain. Seawater runs through a grate in the wall, with a lever nearby. Two ladders are in the corners of the room, on either side of the seawater channel, and a wide grate is on the floor in the middle. [18:25:44] * Paera sighs in relief once they're away from the guards. "Well, that worked out better than I would have expected." [18:26:13] I wonder what's happened. [18:26:57] "They're probably densely unaware of the current predicament with the water supply/" [18:28:12] Probably. Convenient for us. [18:29:00] Still, seems like this city has an awful lot of problems. [18:31:33] "That it does." [18:35:02] * Eilenia steps along. [18:36:35] * Eilenia looks up the ladders [18:37:29] * It's actually down. The ladders go down to a concrete walkway below, though it's rather dark down there [18:39:06] Into the pit? [18:39:27] Not much place else to go. [18:39:56] Place your pog, dem, since you're the one with the light [18:40:00] (Damn) [18:46:20] * And so, you head down the ladder into the overflow area. The water pours down from above, thunderously, and the hall stretches out into the darkness. There's an odd, sharp scent in the air. [18:52:45] * Xan tries to identify the smell. [19:06:29] "Acid. Ammonia perhaps?" [19:09:20] Huh. They got something dumping acid into the sewers, or... [19:29:59] Or? [19:31:06] * Eilenia looks down at the water for odd things. Likecrocodiles. [19:32:14] Honestly, I don't know what else could be causing it. But I have this sinking feeling we'll find out. And won't like it. [19:34:27] "Well, let's follow our noses, hmm?" [19:38:08] Better than nothing. [19:38:12] * Eilenia steps forward, with the torch held high. [19:44:14] * Paera follows after Eili. [19:45:22] * Eve follwos after, her sword and shield at the ready. As you walk, you pass a bridge over the seawater. The smell grows stronger as you walk,. [19:47:49] The World has such different smells [19:49:35] * In the dim light outside what's cast by the Lit torch, you notice small alcoves up ahead. It's hard to tell, but they don't seem like part of the original architecture [19:49:42] * Paera wrinkles her nose. "Well I'm glad _someone's_ enjoying it." [19:49:50] Oh, no. It's dreadful. [19:53:24] * Eilenia moves towards the alcoves, being careful to stay with the group. Slowly, it spills out and begins oozing towazrds you, burbling as it goes.
