Start of #Exalted buffer: Wed Jul 30 20:18:07 2008 [16:59:04] Get IC, everyone, we're about to start. [16:59:09] * Yon is now known as Paera [17:02:19] Whooooo [17:02:25] Rusty? [17:08:41] :( [17:10:05] Hahahha I _still_ can't stop laughing at the youfoundthecomic cover. [17:15:18] Man, I love the Doug LP [17:15:31] Mr. Swirly: Doug, you're just in time! [17:15:32] Doug: Mr. Swirly, have you seen Patti? [17:15:32] Mr. Swirly: She just left. She didn't say where she was going, though. Can you do me a favor? [17:15:32] Doug: What is it? [17:15:32] Mr. Swirly: Take these Beetsicle samples around town. If you give them all away, I'll treat you and Patti to the Swirly special sundae! [17:15:33] Doug: Really? [17:15:33] Mr. Swirly: Of course! And perhaps someone around town will help you find Patti. [17:15:35] Doug: That's true. I'll do it then. [17:15:35] Mr. Swirly: Great! I'll just give you four for now. Try to deliver those Beetsicles before they melt! [17:15:37] I have to admit, I was pretty hyped. Mr. Swirly usually only gave out his Swirly special sundaes to celebrate Jewish holidays that fell on odd calendar dates or the birthdays of Color Me Badd members. They technically contain more banana flavor than is allowed by state law! [17:15:39] Hahahaha, there's a Doug LP? [17:15:42] You lika the gametable? [17:16:06] :9 [17:16:27] hosting [17:16:34] http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2914658&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=1 [17:17:02] Just need Rusty now [17:17:12] Man, I didn't even know there was a Doug game [17:19:49] Hey Nova, did you see this yet? http://www.youfoundthecomic.com/About_the_Comic.php [17:21:33] I really like the commentary on account of how understated it tends to be [17:21:57] Like, Doug finds a random baby on the floor at the mall, picks it up, puts it back down, and his only comment is "Man, this town is country as hell." [17:24:08] hahahah [17:25:27] Yon: Thats awesome [17:25:45] I just love how it ended up HAPPENING. [17:26:00] More Anonymous exposure is always good, and it's a *rainbow afroed gundamn unveiling a guy fawks mask sculpture" [17:26:10] That's not a Gundam. [17:26:14] That's SageGaiGar. [17:27:07] Hahaha [17:27:19] "Hey, we want to give out cards at Comic-con, but Comic-con says we can't do that, unless it's also to promote a comic." "Let's make a comic to promote then." "Okay!" [17:27:39] Hahahah [17:27:42] hahahahaha [17:27:47] :D [17:27:55] That's unbelievably awesome [17:28:07] Man, it's like Anonymous can do anything. [17:28:20] I read the article on Anon in Maxim [17:28:35] Maxim was very careful to not sound too Pro-Anon, but you can tell they were. [17:28:38] I still need to pick that up. [17:28:57] Or more acturately, they were careful not to sound Anti-CoS [17:37:10] * Mechazawa is now known as Xan [17:38:07] wait.. what [17:38:15] L. Ron's wife is really named Mary Sue? [17:38:55] Yeah [17:39:26] You'd think she'd be more useful with a name like that. :V [17:44:16] hahahaha [17:51:21] Huh [17:51:39] Did anyone else read the Dragon article about Dollurh's Dawn? [17:52:09] Didn't even know there was one [17:52:52] Expeditionary Dispatches [17:52:53] Not yet. [17:52:56] I saw it in my feed [17:53:15] It's about a village where reincarnated/cloned historic figures live. [17:53:48] huh [17:53:49] Cool [17:53:56] There's also an "eternal hero" type epic destiny we may appropriate for Aurora [17:54:25] Oh, the epic destiny's finally arrived/ [17:54:27] I'll have to read it now [17:54:40] Whooo, skill challenge [17:54:41] Init [17:54:42] 1d20+6 [17:54:42] Eilenia rolls 1D20+6: 16 +6 = 22 [17:56:37] It's not the same thing as the 3.5 enternal hero, and at first glance it seems kinda lame [17:57:51] Is anyone else going to init? Or do I just walk up and start talking? [17:58:11] we init for a skill challenge? [17:58:20] I think we do... [17:58:28] Yeah, to determine order of rolls, I think [17:58:35] Huh. [17:58:44] I just figured Dem was testing the dicebot. :downs: [17:58:56] :( [17:59:06] 1d20+2 [17:59:06] Paera rolls 1D20+2: 6 +2 = 8 [17:59:09] Well, shoot. I thought I was trained in Diplomacy but I'm not [18:00:45] Does anyone know where I can find the 4e errata? [18:00:55] The website is obfuscating it [18:01:20] http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/updates [18:01:28] They're not called errata any more for some reason [18:02:07] Products/ Updates [18:03:35] Alright. Since you're trying to get inside by one way or another, I'd say this is a social challenge with Stealth as a primary skill as well. [18:03:44] As soon as Rusty rolls init, we can start [18:04:11] Cool [18:04:19] Huh. Posi and Castle said that I13 will have the villianous version of Empathy. [18:04:31] I hope it ends up being something like a Schadenfreude set [18:04:50] 1d20+8 [18:04:50] Xan rolls 1D20+8: 8 +8 = 16 [18:04:54] Hahaha [18:04:59] That could be interesting [18:05:16] I remember when everyone kept insisting on Heat guys early in CoV release because they wanted healers. :( [18:05:21] Yeah. Debuffing enemies to buff and heal allies [18:05:23] When it had ONE heat power [18:05:51] er, heal [18:07:01] 1d20+2 [18:07:01] Charles rolls 1D20+2: 3 +2 = 5 [18:07:03] Alright [18:07:15] Eilenia, Xan, Paera, Eve. [18:08:06] Complexity two, six successes before three failure. I'm going by the revised rules before experimenting with other stuff. [18:08:12] Alright. Going to try to open it up with a Diplomacy check. We're new to the area, never been this close to sea, curious about how the sluices work. [18:08:23] * Charles nods [18:08:28] What's the DC? [18:08:54] 10 [18:09:20] revised rules? [18:09:22] Hm... acutally, I have a pretty good HIstory score. +12, to it'd autosucceed. [18:09:27] Revised skill challenge rules [18:09:33] I don't know how HIstory would apply here, though [18:09:37] Anyway, diplomacy [18:09:38] 1d20+2 [18:09:38] Eilenia rolls 1D20+2: 11 +2 = 13 [18:09:55] Revised or houseruled? As in, are these revised rules posted somewhere? [18:10:42] On the wizard website [18:10:49] Alright, roleplay it. [18:11:44] where? updates for DMG? [18:12:44] Yeah [18:13:33] ....wait a second. [18:13:40] So ALL DC are basically lowered by 5. [18:13:46] Yeah [18:13:59] And skill challenges no longer have a +5 DC penalty [18:15:15] yeah [18:15:25] Man... [18:15:37] these updates are so sweeping with deleted paragraphs here and there... [18:17:50] Perception to look for alternate ways in, as well as to tell whether or not these two are posessed, I suppose [18:17:57] Does anyone remember that one site that digs through CoH's Piggs for bits of hidden content? [18:18:10] Not me [18:18:16] 1d20+9 [18:18:16] Xan rolls 1D20+9: 11 +9 = 20 [18:18:54] Hmm...trying to remember what it was called. [18:19:24] Something about the 5th Column. [18:19:47] They're not possessed. And you could get in through the water, if you wanted to risk it, but the building itself is windowless. [18:22:03] I should buy a Water Walk ritual. [18:22:28] Huh. Positron is a shitty TF because of technical limitations. [18:22:57] Originally, it was going to be two storylines, but they had to be spliced together and made weird because, when it was made, two story arcs couldn't be put on the same contact [18:23:34] ... huh. [18:23:37] Interesting. [18:24:14] Trying bluff. [18:24:16] Hm. D3's registered "ONechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad" and "Onechanbara: Bikini ZOmbie Slayers" [18:24:25] 1d20+6 [18:24:25] Paera rolls 1D20+6: 12 +6 = 18 [18:24:46] That's a success, roleplay it [18:30:05] Welp, looks like I'll finally be importing a DS game from Europe. http://www.destructoid.com/suda-51-s-c urious-flower-sun-and-rain-ds-gets-confirmed-european-release-date-97356.phtml [18:30:50] 1d20+9 [18:30:50] Charles rolls 1D20+9: 12 +9 = 21 [18:31:52] ...the 'huge success of Killer7'? I thought it got good reviews but sold like crap. [18:32:04] Europe loved it. [18:32:14] North America did not. [18:32:26] Alright, four successes, no failures. Eilenia's turn. [18:35:39] Alright, going for a Diplomacy check [18:35:40] 1d20+2 [18:35:40] Eilenia rolls 1D20+2: 9 +2 = 11 [18:36:17] Success [18:37:27] I'm not really sure what you're trying to accomplish there. [18:38:14] Though I find it really hilarious that Eilenia's got inside the building and has adopted a 'screw those guys outside, I'mma take architecture class!' attitude [18:38:38] It sounded like a better idea in my head. :( [18:38:46] I'm having a hard time picturing the area [18:38:59] I also don't know what the building looks like inside [18:40:15] :( [18:40:51] That's largely because I didn't describe it that well. It's a low building by the seaward wall, very plain compared to the other buildings in town. It straddles the canal, and inside, it's lit by everburning torches and has water from outside running into a trench. The trench has a grate in it, leading down, and there's a downward stairway. Currently, the grate's open. [18:41:08] Alright [18:41:30] And our objective is to keep the guards distracted while Xan and Eve make their entrance? [18:41:46] Yeah. [18:43:41] so we're sneaking in? [18:44:00] Or convincing the other guard to get you in or something [18:44:46] I'm kinda disliking how us being in an init order's dampening in-character conversation. [18:45:19] Yeah. The init seems like a wonky system [18:45:54] And this just feels sort of bland. I'm not liking the core system that much. I'm gonna try one of the Stalker0 ones next time. [18:46:22] Maybe its just innappropriate timing for a skill challenge [18:46:35] Maybe, yeah. [18:47:02] Like, right now, Xan asked a simple question. Don't have anything to roll for it, honestly. [18:47:19] Well, you can talk outside of init order in other init situations. [18:47:33] So I don't see why you'd limit yourself to talking on your turn during a skill challenge. [18:47:44] Yeah [18:48:22] Because I don't rightly know what other skills to utilize at this point. Why did they only let two of us in? It's sort of strange [18:49:06] And being in init order has thrown us into an incredibly awkward social situation. [18:49:35] Because only two people were talking about going in, and the others included a guy who was hanging back looking at it, but not showing any other interest in it. Also, *you can talk outside of init order*. [18:49:51] Waiting until your arbitrary block of time to speak's put you in an awkward social situation. [18:50:18] Xan wasn't hanging back. He was with the rest of the group, and asked immediately, out of init order, why he wasn't being let in with the rest of the group. [18:50:32] I thought he was [18:51:20] I never implied that, just that he was sizing up the guards to see if they were infected as they talked. [18:51:57] And that you were casing the building, which isn't something you can really do while standing in place near people holding a conversation [18:52:50] He wasn't moving around to case it, just examining the building from his position. [18:54:05] In other words, since he isn't a talker, he meandered along with the group as a whole and scoped out the place and the people while the talkers did the talking. [18:55:16] This is a bullshit situation. Let's just advance the plot and move on. [18:56:03] Yeah [18:57:16] Wasn't trying to pull a fillibuster there, just had a different mental picture of what was going on with the group. [18:59:07] Yeah. I'd kind of pictured the group starting a ways away from things, so they had more room to do stuff like sneak, and only assumed that the people who were talking to the guards had got close by that point [19:01:00] Making a perception check [19:01:07] 1d20+5 [19:01:07] Eilenia rolls 1D20+5: 16 +5 = 21 [19:01:16] Looking for what, exactly? [19:01:38] Signs of contamination. [19:01:43] Tha'ts what we're here for, isn't it? [19:05:11] How close is it form me? [19:07:11] The water surface and teh ug-ts, I mean [19:07:54] Well, water is running in from a sluice at around waist level, and then going through a grate to a lower floor that has some walkways in addition to the canal. The lower level is about 20 feet down, but you can reach the stream coming in, if you want. [19:08:08] Hm. [19:08:15] I've got Mage Hand. It's got a range of 25 feet. [19:08:26] How hard would it be to grab an ug-t? [19:08:32] If that's what they are, anyway [19:10:59] Hm. Let me check the Mage Hand rules [19:10:59] Whoops. I should have rolled a +3 for perception, not 5 [19:11:53] Mage Hand can only manipulate objects [19:12:18] So unless you can kill one and change it from a creature to an object and then catch it, you're out of luck. :( [19:13:14] I wonder if there was any clarification about that in any of the updates. The whole creature/object thing [19:13:46] Like how fireball can now damage objects. :V [19:14:19] Well, I did spot something at least [19:15:18] And also on the creature/enemy thing. :V :V :V [19:15:24] hahahahahahah [19:15:35] YOU ARE MY ENEMY for less than one round [19:15:56] The problem with letting Mage Hand effect non-objects is that it can get pretty silly. [19:16:00] Yeah [19:16:16] Like, kidnapping halfling children with your Mage Hand or strangling pixies like you're Darth Vader [19:16:27] wait [19:16:32] Target [Addition] [19:16:32] Player’s Handbook, page 57 [19:16:32] Add the following sentences to the end of the first paragraph: “Some powers [19:16:32] include objects as targets. At the DM’s discretion, a power that targets a creature [19:16:32] can also target an object, whether or not the power lists an object as a potential [19:16:32] target.” [19:17:19] Powers that target creatures can target objects, but not vice versa [19:17:33] alright guys, Imma go to sleep early [19:17:45] Later [19:17:53] Don't need GT? [19:18:10] We might later on [19:18:18] Night Nova [19:18:28] Night, Nova. [19:18:38] hrm [19:18:50] I was expecting you to say no since no one but dem was on it [19:19:44] If combat happens, I guess we can leave it as a cliffhanger [19:19:49] okay [19:19:55] nighty [19:19:59] Later [19:20:19] night nova [19:20:30] any check to id the flecks? [19:20:50] Let's say Arcana or Dungeoneering [19:21:34] I'm still not entirely sold on Dungeoneering identifying all abberant monsters, since it's generally the 'do shit underground' skill, and not all abberations are underground, so I'll allow Arcana for now as well [19:22:20] 1d20+6 [19:22:20] Xan rolls 1D20+6: 8 +6 = 14 [19:22:25] thats dung [19:22:57] * NovaSeaker (Novaseaker@cpe-24-168-45-216.si.res.rr.com) Quit (Ping timeout: 180 seconds) [19:24:10] You're *pretty* sure they're ug-ts. But they could be something else. Can't really say. [19:24:26] Gonna try arcana then [19:24:35] 1d20+6 [19:24:35] Paera rolls 1D20+6: 9 +6 = 15 [19:25:03] Charles are they female? [19:25:08] Because I'd like to roll to objectify women [19:25:10] You can pretty much confirm that they are. [19:25:18] and that would make them valid targets. >:( [19:25:23] Hahahahaha [19:27:18] The guards can hear us talking, right? :V [19:29:08] The guards are outside [19:29:56] Provided they haven't gone off to find some night watch members because some crazy fakerussian almost dropped one of them in a canal. [19:30:43] Oh. Whoops. [19:33:24] Yeah, tonight definitely does it for me. [19:34:05] Does what? [19:35:01] Tips the scales in favor of which game/edition I prefer. [19:35:29] What, for the skill challenge system? [19:35:40] Well, that among other things. [19:36:15] I've given 4e a pretty deep look, having been in lets see, four or five weekly games since its initial release. [19:37:13] That was a pretty piss-poor implementation of the skill challenge system. I'd withhold judgement until it gets a planned use by someone who understands it better than me. Not to say it's necessarily good, but it's probably better than it came off tonight. [19:37:48] Well, like I said, it's not just that. [19:38:09] I wanna say it's centered on the lack of cool shit/running out of cool things to do in combat factor. [19:38:29] ? [19:39:11] I know it's still in its relative core stage, but every time I have a character enter combat, he does one or two okayish things in combat, then pulls the same attack over and over again. [19:39:26] even in the 11th level game I'm in. [19:40:03] Huh. [19:40:24] When I got into fights in 3.X, it was pretty much the same, except without the part where I did the okayish things. But then, I didn't play spellcasting classes. [19:41:04] With Aurora, I was pretty much going "Let's hope this hit" and it doesn't. [19:41:07] Unless it's an arrow. [19:41:18] In which it instantly kills whatever I aim at. [19:41:19] Even spellcasters here lose old abilities as they get more powerful for no reason other than because some guy arbitrarily decided that upper-tier abilties get overwritten by old ones [19:42:01] Let's take swordsages, for example, and compare them to your average 4e character [19:42:48] I thought at first the concept of a swordsage was pretty cool. When you're out of stuff to do, you can take a second and refresh if you need to, swap out your abilities to apply to the current encounter, and get more options down the line. [19:42:52] Many more options. [19:43:01] Well, that's not true. I played paladins and clerics as well. So I got a few okay things to do a day, and then it was back to swinging with basic attacks. [19:43:16] Same here [19:43:24] That's why Aurora's bow got as much use as it did [19:44:04] I guess it depends on what you played. [19:44:33] But, nova's stuff aside, I've been, well, kind of bored. [19:45:39] No offense to you two's dmming skills [19:45:48] Which really have little to do with it. [19:46:03] I even think my characters are conceptually cool. [19:46:59] But pulling the same two or three tricks over and over again, every time, is getting redundant. I feel like they're mechanically the same damned character. [19:47:31] Okay. [19:49:17] I'm not gonna drop, but aside from the rp, I'm not really having much fun anymore [19:49:21] -_- [19:49:55] Okay [19:50:27] Well, that's too bad. It's not a problem we can solve, or that anyone else here has, so I'm not sure what to say other than 'Okay, I acknowledge your opinion.' [19:50:46] Yeah, I getcha [19:52:23] Dem: What're you trying to do here. I'm not sure how we can advance from this, since I don't get the situation [19:53:07] I'm just trying to figure out where teh responsibility lies. [19:53:31] If it's the guards' job to make sure that the water is filtered and it's handed to villagers, clean, then they're not doing tehir duty [19:53:44] Aaah [19:53:46] If it's individuals who aren't cleaning their own water, then it's their fault [19:53:50] The first, we can do something to stop [19:54:04] The second, not so much, short of restructuring the water system [19:56:05] How dark is it right now [19:56:07] ? [19:56:20] Night's pretty much fallen. [20:00:38] Alright. The source of how the water gets into the canals is in the lower levels of the sluice building, if that's what you meant. The source of the water itself is the ocean [20:02:56] Just wanna confirm they are actually coming in from the ocean, I think [20:03:17] Is that what Xan meant? [20:04:05] I want the game to move. >:( [20:04:53] I'll follow the stream of creatures until I can't walk on land anymore, then turn around and track where they're swimming to [20:05:11] I have no idea where the fuck the game is moving :psyduck: [20:05:22] Alright [20:05:26] Guess we shouldve gone after the nobles. [20:06:07] Well, we didn't get any solid proof about what they were. :/ [20:06:19] Nah, it's just that I really wasn't prepared for tonight. [20:06:37] I'll do my homework for next week so the session isn't so bullshit. [20:09:50] Honestly, I'm almost inclined to declare this session a wash, since it's been two hours and nothing's happened because I didn't bother planning anything out ahead of time. [20:13:21] Well, you're pretty good at improv [20:13:47] And I'd really much rather come at this again on monday with something better in mind and put this session down the memory hole. [20:14:27] * Eilenia nods [20:15:14] I'm alright at improv, but I started off without anything in mind, went off the wrong foot, and kept stumbling for there. [20:16:39] I think I"m a bit off tonight too. :/ [20:16:41] I'm going to call the session here, so I can gather my head about this. Try and decide what's going on and all that. [20:16:50] Eilenia hasn't been Elena enough lately. [20:17:16] * Paera is now known as Yon [20:17:20] Yeah, that line of questioning was kind of weird, especially coming from her [20:17:32] Sorry guys. That was bad and I feel bad for subjecting you all to it. [20:18:05] * Xan is now known as Mechazawa End of #Exalted buffer Wed Jul 30 20:18:07 2008
