Start of #TD&DG buffer: Tue Jun 10 21:09:42 2008 [17:48:46] [Last time Ierikc negotiated with some earth elementals, but found their comprehension level...lacking. Fortunately, they have led the heroes to their "big brother" and his friend, which turn out to be a man-sized earth elemental wearing a gold diadem, and a strange cyllindrical stone creature with three eyes and three legs distributed evenly about its body, with a three-part mouth on its top.] [17:50:45] [These two strange monsters waited in a relatively small room, for so many people, behind a false wall. The elemental rumbles something to the other creature, which turns one of its three eyes on the party. "You are the first to seek us out," it says in the common tongue. "Why do you intrude on the Caliph's domain?"] [17:51:06] [Cast: Bert, Tag, Althea, Ierikc, Lidya, Stella, Wurr, xorn, elemental | Start!] [17:53:11] * Lidya looks to Ierikc. [17:54:07] * Althea mutters under her breath, "I'm beginning to wonder that myself." [17:56:51] We're here to find out what's going on here. [17:56:55] We heard the mine was haunted. [17:57:15] And it seems like it's overpopulated to me. [17:58:06] * The creature - not much bigger than Lidya - lumbers over on its tripod legs to speak to Althea and Lidya. "It's not. Nothing dead walks here. The fish-men are attempting to invade, but will be repelled." [17:58:27] What are these fish-men? [17:58:49] * Ierikc clears his throat. "What they're *trying* to say is we're seeking a solution to the salt-watering of the mine, and a resolution for the mining so the miners can come back to work." [17:59:13] What I'm trying to say is I don't see why everyone's fighting over dirt. [17:59:40] * Althea disdainfully wipes a finger along the wall and holds it out to emphasize her point. [18:01:08] * Ierikc sighs and rubs the arch of his snout. [18:01:34] * The creature rumbles something - Ierikc can tell it's relaying what he just said in Terran - and the elemental rumbles back. The creature translates, "Something altered the Caliph's domain. He and his brethren are exploring the new place. Fleshy thieves were taking the food, but have been driven out. Now new invaders arrive to flood the holding. If you wish to stop them, you have the Caliph's blessing." [18:02:49] * Wurr frowns, wishing he understood. [18:03:07] What has altered the Caliph's domain? Maybe we can set things right. [18:04:02] * It ... might be "sniffing", but it's hard to tell. It's eye turns on Wurr. "The blue one has food. The tribute is welcome, and shows the sincerity of your offer." [18:04:35] * Wurr looks VERY confused. "What do they eat?" [18:04:45] Precious metals, I think. [18:04:53] Precious metals and gems. The very thing the miners were mining out. [18:05:18] It'd be a gesture of goodwill. We could use all the friends down here we can while we get this sorted out. [18:06:42] Ew. That can't be tasty. [18:07:14] It is delicious. [18:09:14] I'm beginning to see why you're fighting over dirt. You have no taste. [18:09:17] * The elemental rumbles, and the creature rumbles back before replying, finally, to Lidya. "A tunnel did not lead where it once did, and the Caliph and his brethren explored. It is now flooded by the fish-things. [18:09:20] " [18:10:05] See if they'll take one of those silver-things. If they like raw swords, that silvery stuff must be a delicacy. [18:10:06] Point us to that tunnel, and we'll try to fix this. [18:10:46] * Wurr looks a bit uncomfortable but slowly digs through his bag and holds out a bottle of silver sheen. [18:11:27] Oh, hey. It's that seasoning. [18:12:03] * The creature - Ierikc's fairly certain it's a xorn - looks -very- interested. "What is that?" [18:12:25] silver gunk. I don't know, they say I need it. I didn't. [18:14:01] It covers swords in silver. Makes wererats very unhappy to be hit with it. [18:14:23] * Ierikc nods. [18:14:28] *without actually having the elemental say anything* The Caliph is most greatful for your offering. I will take it for him. *if it had a tongue, it'd probably be licking its lips* [18:15:28] * sAFK (blah@c-98-224-254-19.hsd1.mi.comcast.net) has joined #TD&DG [18:16:05] * Wurr shrugs and hands that, and another bottle...and another bottle, and a fourth. "He is...honored and I am happy to present this?" He looks over at the lizard hopping he's saying this right. [18:16:06] I think he likes it. [18:18:03] No way you'd see me eating that. [18:18:53] There are plenty of things I'd eat you wouldn't. [18:19:09] * The creature gobbles two of them immediately, and then scuttles the other two carefully away. It rumbles in what can only be an earthen purr of satisfaction. The elemental says something in Terran, and the xorn rumbles back. It then translates the elemental's reply. "The Caliph accepts your generous gift as a token of goodwill. He knows not the reason for the change to his domain, only that it must have been great and powerful ma [18:19:35] (great and powerful ma...) [18:19:45] powerful magic. He suspects trickery by the fish-men, but..." [18:20:23] We will find the reason and do our best at fixing it. [18:20:30] * It continues after a pause, clearly no longer translating, "But I do not think it likely. We had not seen fish-men in the Caliph's domain before the change. They only appeared after things changed again." [18:22:09] Well, I guess we just need to figure out what caused this change and fix it. Seems simple enough. [18:22:34] * The xorn translates Wurr's promise for the Caliph, who rumbles his approval, and starts crushing clods of earth and stone between its hands. As it does this, the diadem on its brow glows, sending an intense beam at the clump. When he finishes with each, it has become a red diamond. He keeps working on these while the Xorn continues. [18:23:02] That's a neat trick. [18:23:15] The Caliph is pleased, and wishes to offer you a reward for your service. If you need aid from his brethren, you may call on them. [18:23:34] Thanks. [18:23:52] * When it finishes, the Caliph has fashioned five such diamonds and holds them out, offering one to each humanoid. [18:23:58] Well, I think that belongs to you then, Wurr. It was your silversheen, I think Lidya called it. [18:24:16] * Wurr takes his, bit nervous about his swords so close. [18:24:23] * Althea lets Wurr take her diamond unless he really doesn't want to. [18:24:37] * The elemental doesn't seem to want people to take more than one apiece. [18:24:42] * Lidya watches, amazed. [18:24:57] * Lidya goes ahead and takes one. [18:25:43] * Althea takes a diamond then. [18:26:50] * Wurr slowly packs his away, making sure it's safe in his backpack. [18:27:18] * sAFK (blah@c-98-224-254-19.hsd1.mi.comcast.net) Quit (Ping timeout) [18:27:55] * sAFK (blah@c-98-224-254-19.hsd1.mi.comcast.net) has joined #TD&DG [18:28:23] * Althea doesn't put the diamond away yet. She does look intently at it for a moment, though. [18:28:31] *intensely [18:28:42] *in halting, inexperianced common* Go find the problem. Report it back. Please do not kill any more of my brethren. Show gems, they will not attack. [18:30:09] Shall we be off, then? [18:30:52] Sure [18:31:37] * Ierikc takes his and nods. [18:31:40] We will. I am sorry for hurting them. [18:31:49] * Althea turns and heads out of the room to the north unless someone points her in a different direction. [18:32:02] * Lidya follws along [18:32:15] * Wurr follows his friends. [18:34:24] * Althea "hurries" along. It's not a real hurry, but it's faster than she was moving before. [18:36:19] * Ierikc heads in that direction too. [18:36:30] * Althea leads the way into the corridor a short distance before leaping back from the floor falling out from beneath her. Good thing she's light on her feet. [18:36:45] Dangit Althea. Why don't you let the people who can take a hit lead? [18:36:55] Because you're all so slow. [18:37:15] * Bert hurries forward. "Are you alright, Althea?" [18:37:28] Better than the floor is. It's gone to pieces. [18:37:34] * Wurr frowns. "Why trap?" [18:37:44] Maybe if you were patient or told someone else to head up, they'd do so. [18:37:54] You alright? [18:38:11] * Tag pokes the newly-opened pit with his sword, finding the sides sloshy with thin mud. "Looks more like a sinkhole than a trap." [18:38:25] Oh...that's worse? [18:38:33] * Althea points at the hole. "I wouldn't fall for that." [18:38:39] * Tag shrugs. "Whatever." [18:39:30] Well... let's find a way to keep going. Careful now. [18:39:49] * Althea holds out the Lighted stick. "So, who's leading the way, then? [18:40:20] * Bert tentatively steps forward. "I--" he starts, before Tag snorts and grabs the stick from Althea. "I will." [18:41:42] I will, friends. [18:42:14] * Wurr frowns, but lets the boys argue over it. [18:42:29] * Stella holds her hand out for the stick. [18:42:35] You were going to fall for one yesterday. [18:42:37] I'll go do this. [18:42:41] I'm altert. [18:42:43] * Lidya heads on ahead [18:42:56] * Lidya searches all the way [18:43:01] * Tag hands the stick over to Stella. He apparently just didn't want Bert leading. [18:43:22] * Stella nods, and walks along assisting Lidya, for what it's worth. [18:43:25] To the right, or to the up, on the map? [18:43:32] ((darn it. strike that. mischan)) [18:47:06] * Stella, with Lidya searching for traps, leads the way. Another chamber like the one the Caliph and the xorn wait in lies to the east, with another tunnel continuing on. There's also a tunnel to the north from the chamber in which the sinkhole opened up. [18:47:55] I'm thinking that way. What do you think? [18:47:57] * Lidya points east. [18:48:37] sure.. [18:48:50] * Stella nods. [18:48:53] * Althea shrugs. "I'm not leading anymore." [18:49:02] * Lidya takes a peek easy. [18:49:05] (east) [18:49:50] No nasty surprises here... [18:49:58] * Lidya keeps going [18:50:07] * Stella follows along cheerfully. [18:51:25] * Tag and Bert follow along cautiously. Tag has his sword out, and keeps watching Althea, as if worried she'll trigger -another- trap. [18:51:47] * Ierikc rolls his eyes. [18:53:34] * Althea makes conversation as they walk the caves. "I still can't believe people are fighting over dirt. I mean, isn't there enough dirt for everyone already? The ground is full of the stuff." [18:54:06] It might be special dirt [18:54:52] People fight over dirt all the time [18:55:13] No, people tend to fight for the stuff on that dirt. They're literally fighting for dirt here. [18:55:51] Something's coming from the east. [18:55:59] Whispy... like the mephits earlier. [18:56:03] Well, the dwarves want it for what's in the dirt. [18:56:15] ...mephits? What's a mephit? [18:56:29] Those things I guess. [18:57:40] More of them? There's things crawling all over these tunnels, aren't there? [18:58:22] * Bert moves nervously closer to Wurr. "They're not ghosts, right?" [18:58:27] I wonder how drawves fit. [18:59:23] Snugly, I'm guessing. [18:59:39] Judging from how many are outside the mines these days? They don't. [19:00:22] That sad. [19:01:07] * Tag gestures in the direction Ierikc indicated. "So, we avoiding it, or investigating? Or are we having a picnic here?" [19:01:39] I say we check it out. Lidya, if you will. [19:01:43] Gotcha [19:01:45] * Lidya moves onward [19:02:02] I want a picnic. A bit hungry. [19:02:11] * Althea follows along, leaning left and right trying to see around other people's heads to see what's ahead. [19:02:31] Try eating your swords, Wurr. Those weirdos seem to think that they are tasty. [19:03:08] I don't think I can swollow swords. Not built for that. [19:04:46] *giggles nervously* That does sound painful. [19:05:33] I didn't bring any food with me. Probably would get dirt in it carrying it around here. [19:06:10] I will let you know if I find any more nutritious insects, friend Wurr. [19:06:25] * Wurr shrugs. "let's get moving." [19:06:41] Yeah [19:06:44] * Lidya takes the turn [19:07:04] It does sound like there's an unusual ammount of water down here. [19:07:13] [Moving forward through the small chamber - little more than a carved out hollow where some vein of ore must have been, really - leads into another mine tunnel supported by wooden frames. The sound of the burbling and rustling is more audible here, coming from the south.] [19:08:38] Way too much water down here. [19:08:49] Yeah [19:09:00] * sAFK (blah@c-98-224-254-19.hsd1.mi.comcast.net) Quit (Ping timeout) [19:09:45] * A salty sea-breeze wafts northward from that direction...but its refreshing nature is marred by stagnant, sulfuric offal stench just below the surface. [19:09:49] So, Dr. Ierikc, what are your thoughts on all this? [19:10:37] Doctor? [19:10:45] What gives you the idea that I am a... 'Doktor', as you say. [19:11:13] Is that a kind of lizard? [19:11:22] No reason in particular, Ierikc. [19:11:23] No, it's a healer. Like Ierikc. [19:11:39] He's good at it. [19:11:52] * sAFK (blah@c-98-224-254-19.hsd1.mi.comcast.net) has joined #TD&DG [19:12:20] Someone with a studied skill in the healing arts, rather than merely talent. This certainly represents our friend Ierick. [19:12:22] ... well, this place could become a disaster soon. Not now, but soon. It's the water. [19:12:43] Is that what is creating the sinkholes? [19:12:46] Well, perhaps we should take a look at the water, then? [19:13:24] [The floor here is kind of muddy. Tag doesn't seem to mind, but Bert is stepping gingerly, trying to find the drier spots.] [19:13:29] * Ierikc hmmms. "Yes, I see why that would apply." [19:13:59] * Stella just plods along. [19:14:06] * Althea is trying to find the dry spots too. [19:14:19] * Stella's boots are oddly unoccupied. Except for her feet. [19:14:37] * Lidya steps along carefully [19:14:42] * Wurr frowns looking around [19:15:08] Too bad we can't drink the water. Salty water is not tasty. [19:15:48] [Moving further south, the tunnel has clearly collapsed up ahead, but there is one side-tunnel to the west, leading into a small 10 foot by 10 foot chamber, where a familiar arguing pair can be found standing next to - or, in Dusty's case, hovering over - a swirling whirlpool of foul, salty muck in the middle of the floor.] [19:16:24] Hi again! [19:16:42] We keep running into them, don't we? [19:18:00] ...oh! It's you again! Would you tell Dusty that this -isn't my fault-, please? SHE's the one who decided drying out the floor might open up a way home for her. It's not my fault it caused a collapse into...whatever this is. [19:18:22] * Althea sighs audibly. [19:19:10] Don't suppose both of you could stop and relax a bit? [19:19:24] * Ierikc sighs as well. [19:19:24] Oh, now now. [19:19:24] We're trying to figure out how to fix this [19:19:40] What you're doing could make it a bit harder for us [19:20:05] Well, I know this isn't my fault. It reeks of water element, so it's Blue's fault! [19:20:46] Not necessariyl. We heard osmething about fish men. [19:21:57] Yeah, they're Blue's friends. [19:22:02] It would be troublesome to introduce still more conflict into this mess. [19:22:05] Oh? [19:22:24] *rolls his eyes* "Friends" isn't what I'd call them. The Kuo-toa are jerks. Almost as bad as you, Dusty. [19:23:36] Oh, dear. [19:23:48] [As Stella moves closer with Althea's glowing stick, it becomes clear that the "whirlpool" doesn't actually fill the hole completely; it more forms a rank tunnel wall down into a salt-smelling darkness.] [19:25:21] Did they come in from the plane of water, as well? [19:26:16] They're all over it. Pests. [19:26:48] Think they're behind this? [19:27:13] Everyone just keeps pointing fingers. [19:27:23] This definitely goes back to the water plane, but I'm not taking it. Dusty's magic made it nasty. [19:27:37] Stupid fish-men? Behind this? [19:27:53] Maybe. I'd like to see what they have to say. [19:28:08] They -could- be, but... I don't think so. I got here before them, and Dusty and the earth jerks were here before me. [19:28:29] Because whoever is responsible for this has pissed off mushrooms, dwarves, earth elementals, you, and him, and if it isn't the Kuo-toa, then it's probably pissed THEM off too. [19:28:37] WAIT! Fish men? You aren't them/ [19:29:29] *gestures at her lithe, definitely femanine, child-sized and slightly devil-like form* Do I -look- like a fish? Gah! Water creatures are so stupid! [19:29:43] Hey! Apologize to the orc! He's trying to help! [19:29:56] Do they LOOK like fish to you, Wurr? [19:30:50] Hm. [19:30:58] ...I don't know how rocks think, I mean the blue one...maybe. I've been called a fish before. [19:31:18] I'm truly sorry for my flighty dust-for-brains companion. She's got so much air between her ears that she can't hear herself think. [19:31:29] The only fish I like are fileted and with some lemon. [19:31:39] ...that actually does sound good. [19:31:40] I like them smoked. [19:31:53] The Kuo-Toa may be able to do this with the aid of one of their priests. They follow Blibdoolpoolp. I can identify his sign if we see it. [19:31:58] I'll eat 'em any way. [19:32:09] * Ierikc agrees with Althea. [19:32:50] Well, you might find 'em down there, but they have been using the portal near those mushroom people. [19:33:04] Can you pronounce that name again? [19:33:10] * sAFK (blah@c-98-224-254-19.hsd1.mi.comcast.net) Quit (Ping timeout) [19:33:56] Blibdoolpoolp. [19:34:16] * Wurr movs and hands Tag a gold piece. "You're right she could." [19:34:35] hee. [19:34:50] * Blue says it as well, correcting Stella's inflection slightly. It sounds like a water drop landing in an underground pool and sloshing a bit. ...humans probably can't adequately duplicate the sound. [19:35:09] Hah. *takes the gold piece, polishes it on his leather armor, and pockets it in a pouch* [19:35:27] * Ierikc thinks about that name. [19:36:04] * Stella bows slightly to Blue in thanks for the correction. [19:36:08] So, do we want to try talking to these fishmen? [19:36:35] Sure... talk. [19:37:30] We can try. [19:37:35] But I think we know how it'll turn out. [19:37:48] Good luck. I'm avoiding them. [19:37:49] With Wurr's favorite kind of parley? [19:38:03] And good thing, too. Even Blue doesn't deserve to deal with -those- things. [19:38:17] Hey... uh, question. Just in case we get into a scrap, any particular weaknesses they have that we might be able to exploit? [19:38:21] * Ierikc mmms. "I don't like the prospect of dealing with them." [19:38:34] Easily tricked, turn to ash when a certain word is uttered, that sort of thing? [19:38:38] We haven't even -seen- any. But I don't mind crushing them. [19:39:00] Not really. Don't touch their shields; they're sticky. And if they hold hands, run. [19:39:34] Now, now. We should attempt talking with our mouths before we try talking with our fists. [19:39:50] * Wurr frowns and thinks a bit. "Hey, Princess, can you summon lemon juice?" [19:39:51] * Lidya nods [19:39:59] Hah. Now you're dreaming. [19:40:17] Much as I hate to say it, she's right. They're not...reasonable. [19:40:27] * Ierikc nods. "Espically since Blibdoolpoolp is all in favor of killing anyone who does not worship her." [19:40:45] Well, that's not friendly at all. [19:40:45] Ah, that is a shame. [19:40:48] *looks up at Wurr, then at Althea* Lemon juice? ... It'd take a lot if they're as big as men. [19:41:23] They'd probably be all tough and stringy. I'll stick to normal fish. [19:41:35] Besides, I don't like my food putting up a struggle. [19:41:53] Or much of one, anyway. [19:42:03] When my food can use weapons and shields, I draw the line. [19:43:22] No, no. See, fish don't like changes in water. Too much change means a dead fish. Enough lemon juice in the water around them and they might die. [19:47:11] Well, let's go get 'em. [19:48:16] Stay safe, you two! [19:48:19] * Lidya starts heading back [19:48:27] First. Other than Wurr, can any of the rest of us breathe underwater? It'd only make sense that they'd be UNDER WATER being fish-people. [19:48:37] We will. Unless Dusty turns more psycho than she already is. [19:48:58] I can hold my breath for three minutes. [19:49:02] I can swim... [19:49:04] * Lidya pauses for a moment [19:49:52] My arcane magics do not function as well underwater as they do above the surface. [19:50:16] Mind, I believe they are amphibious. [19:50:37] I'm not too great. [19:51:02] Amphibious or not, if we want to deal with them, we'll likely need to do so on their terms. [19:51:30] This is true, unless we can find a way to make them come to us. [19:51:47] * Wurr seems to think for a second. "HEY! Just because I'm blue you think I can swim?" [19:52:03] .. hm. Is there a way to make them come to us? [19:52:14] No, because you have scales and have a very blue motif, I think you can swim. [19:52:20] Not to mention you're usually clammy. [19:52:26] Blue and Dusty and the ... Caliph? ... said they were around... [19:53:26] I think it was said they were around the mushrooms. [19:53:37] * Wurr blinks and just gives Ierikc a "you're right but I'm going to be angry anyways." glare. [19:53:55] * Ierikc nods. "Let's check it out then. To the caves." He motions to Lidya. [19:54:03] The, uh... mycanoid caves. [19:54:05] The caves! [19:54:30] * Lidya moves along. There may or may not be a spinning black and yellow mushroom signal to indicate a scene change. [19:56:01] * Althea walks along as well, trying to remain as dry and clean as she can. [19:56:24] * Wurr will move behind Althea and -GRIN- "I get to push you into the muddy water soon." [19:57:35] * Ierikc chuckles. [19:57:40] [Back around and down to the myconoids' caves... man, it's even damper and saltier-smelling than before. Althea utterly fails to keep her dress from getting something gooey on it, and Bert and Tag are both thoroughly muddy and wet by the time the rough caverns are reached. Water is ankle deep down here, and the Myconoids are frantically trying to carve out dry places to put their nursery mushrooms higher up.] [19:59:41] * One of the Myconoids notices the party members, and sloshes over. A close examination of his stalk reveals him to be looking dehydrated, with rot showing near the base. He sheds that spoore cloud they used to communicate last time. [20:00:17] * Wurr enters it looking at the signs saddly. [20:00:56] This place looks even worse than before. [20:01:14] ... I know. [20:01:17] * Lidya steps into the cloud [20:01:26] ~Welcome back. We regret that there is no hospitality we can show you. The fish-men ignore us as they come through our caves, but the water will finish us where they will not.~ [20:01:50] We're going to deal with them. Right now. [20:02:01] Ierikc...can you help them with magic? [20:02:50] * The myconoids's sorrow is palpable, but it bows out of the way. "They come from the nursery. It is flooded beyond repair, now. We are hoping to save what remains of the young." [20:02:54] (~ ~) [20:03:37] * Tag looks about distrustfully, while Bert leans in to him and whispers, "Do you hear that voice, too?" The older boy nods, trying to look stern rather than scared. [20:03:48] Ugh. [20:03:48] * Ierikc rubs his head. "I don't really have that capable of spell power, I don't think." [20:04:32] Oh... [20:04:33] We should deal with the water first, to prevent further damage. [20:04:35] Maybe that dust mephit... [20:06:27] I say we cut the water off at its source. [20:07:13] what is that source? [20:09:18] * Lidya points. "There they are." [20:09:34] * Althea adds to Lidya's statement with, "We hope." [20:10:02] I'm guessing the source is where they're coming from. *draws his sword, grinning, and morphs into his hybrid form* [20:10:27] * Althea looks slightly creeped out as Tag does that. "That's still creepy." [20:10:45] Yeah. [20:11:52] ...I don't want to do that. o_o; [20:13:47] Wurr, you may do the honors. [20:14:20] * Wurr shrugs and just dives in. [20:18:36] * Stella darts in towards one of the Kuo-Toa and kicks it in the chest. [20:19:44] * Wurr swings ineffectively. [20:20:34] * Althea steps to the side and fires off an Acid Arrow made of pure arcane energies at the Koa-Toa. However, she slides on the much as she's firing it, causing it to go far wide of the target. [20:23:50] * The Kuo-Toa Stella -didn't- hit reaches out with a long, strangely-ended staff...spear...thing? It snaps shut hard around her neck, cutting the simple cord holding her pendant in the process. It tries to grip and let the kuo-toa pull her to the ground, but she manages to rip her neck out of it...painfully. [20:25:28] * Stella drops as blood gushes freely from her neck. And falls into salt water. [20:30:40] * Lidya rushes forward to grab Stella and the pendant. She rushes back, trying to evader her attackers. [20:32:05] * Tag charges forward - awkwardly, splashing through the to-him calf-deep water - roaring with juvenile rage. "Hey! Fish-face! Fight me, not the lady!" he snarls, bringing his sword down two-handed on the fish-man who just attacked Stella. His sword doesn't stop until it's embedded in the fish-thing's pelvic bone, splitting the upper half of its body in two. [20:32:19] * Tag struggles to pull his sword out of the corpse, but it's wedged in there pretty tight. [20:32:47] * Bert dashes up to help Lidya with Stella. "Please be okay, Stella!" [20:34:12] * The remaining fish-man hisses. It's eye would widen, but it's already as wide as possible, being a fish, and it casts its net over Tag, who, caught defenseless trying to pull out his sword, is tangled. Rat-like squeaks of impotent fury escape his furry snout. [20:35:49] * Ierikc runs fowrward through the water, sloshing in while chanting a prayer. His hand glows as he slaps it onto Stella's shoulder, her wounds healing up. [20:41:29] * Stella kicks to her feet, sidesteps into range of the remaining fishperson, and punches it twice in the ribcage, creating a dent with a sick *crunch*. [20:42:34] * The remaining kuo-toa collapses, its gills flexing futilly until pink fish-blood leaks out of them, and it lies still. Tag, struggling in the net, bites and claws at it, while Bert comes over to help him with a knife. [20:43:04] *squeak* Stupid-- argh-- kill them-- gemme out-- *snaps at the net's ropes* [20:44:46] Calm down-- hold-- stop squirming so I don't cut -you-! *saws at the ropes* [20:44:55] Well, we still need to find where they came from and if there are more of them. [20:45:33] * Ierikc motions again, holding his holy symbol, and prays again. He puts a hand on Stella, and her wounds heal up quickly. [20:45:47] * Speaking of which, another one's head crests the surface over where the nursery once was. It's monocular eye focusses on the corpses and the party, and it sinks back below. [20:47:38] Well, I'm now certain there are more. [20:47:43] * Stella helps Tag with the net. "Be patient, friend Tag. We will have you out soon." [20:47:59] Our victory has been noted. [20:48:17] * Ierikc checks the bodies for loot. [20:48:19] Oh geez. [20:50:37] Yeah. I wouldn't eat those fish. [20:51:04] [The two kuo-toa have between them: one pincer-staff, one small (sticky) wooden shield, Tag's sword embedded in one's pelvic bone, a shortspear, a net, and four spherical pellets of compacted, dusty dirt.] [20:51:34] Hey, what're those pellets/ [20:52:41] * Althea pulls out a knife as she walks over to the fish. [20:52:56] Hey, Wurr. Want to try some precision knifework? [20:53:18] * Stella finds her holy symbol and ties it back on. [20:53:57] If we may extract the eyes intact, I may be able to make use of them later. Unless friend Althea wishes to use them, of course. [20:54:19] That's pretty much what I was getting at, Stella. Wurr is the best one with blades here, I think. [20:54:32] * Tag is finally cut free, and angrilly stomps over to wrench - after several tries and planting his foot most firmly on the thing's corpse - his sword out. He then morphs back to his native form. "Thanks, Bert," he grumbles reluctantly as he sheathes his sword. [20:54:40] What're friends for? *grinning* [20:55:47] * Wurr agrees to help cut out the eyes for Althea and Stella. He threatens to squash them against Althea, but just hands them over to her when she flinches back, grinning at her expression when he dumps the bloody, squishy things into her hands. [20:55:54] * Ierikc takes a knife out and starts gouging out the eyes, as well. [20:56:23] Um... I think I saw one look up and go back. Will it bring friends? Should we get out of here? Can we help the mushroom-people get up where it's drier? [20:56:40] *grunts* Let's just stay here and kill 'em as they come up. [20:57:07] There's a portal, isn't there? [20:57:20] How many are on the other side? [20:57:48] I think we should probably close the portal. [20:58:24] *derisively* How're you gonna do that? [20:58:51] I know there's a spell that does it, but I'm not powerful enough to cast such a thing. [21:00:07] Well, if there's something keeping it open.... then... we couold... uh... [21:00:19] ... take away what's keeping it... open? [21:00:34] Portals are just like doors. We find out what's holding it open, remove that, and then it closes. [21:01:45] Ah, ah. Is anyone else's mind wandering? [21:02:01] Yeah [21:02:02] Yeah, it's... very odd. [21:02:36] More than usual. I keep thinking of places that aren't holes in the dirt. [21:02:46] I don't think so? [21:02:49] (The period afteru usual should be a question mark.) [21:04:39] I'm not. I just think we shouldn't be standing around here. If it's rotting those mushroom's feet, what's this water doing to us? [21:04:53] ... good idea [21:04:57] * Lidya steps away from the water [21:05:56] I think the salt water just isn't good for the mushrooms.
