Session Start: Thu Feb 11 08:51:54 2010 Session Ident: #Exalted 03[08:51:55] * Now talking in #Exalted 01[18:15:25] Matt, you up for gaming tonight? [18:16:27] Oh [18:16:31] Sorry, hang on 03[18:16:33] * MattyQ is now known as Kale [18:16:55] Let's see. Basic framework of the world is that a hundred years ago, the city of the gods was destroyed, turning the continent it was on into a wasteland. The refugees from that made their way to the eastern continent called Torn, for the rift that runs down its center. The refugee race are elves (Technically void elementals wrapped in flesh to keep from being corrupted by what destroyed the city), dwarves (continued) [18:17:04] Might be -slightly- distracted. Whipping up some powers of attorney. x_x;; [18:17:38] (living constructs who began losing their construct nature when their god died), and humans (basically just dudes, except for the whole 'non-functional biology, magic holding them together thing) [18:18:30] Oh, and miw-ren, a race that formed the priesthood before the first city fell, due to having bestial, mortal, and divine natures. They drastically fell, socially, being partially blamed for the death of the gods. [18:19:59] BERNY: THE POWER OF ATTORNEY [18:20:12] The nations of the refugees are loosely held together by their common culture and language, though they've diverged pretty drastically over the last century. For instance, the humans have the Empire, a theocracy led by descendants of the All-Father, which has some elements of the Holy Roman Empire and Imperial China, wrapped up in egyptian trappings, along with some of its own stuff [18:20:18] My favorite power of attourney is flight [18:20:27] Haha. I wish I had that one. XD [18:20:37] It's infinitely cooler than mine. [18:21:36] I always like refugees. [18:22:17] The humans also have an as-yet unnamed corporate republic, which was an early democracy, whose government now exists as a sort of mediator between the corporations that were formed to try and get refugee society in line with what they had experienced in the first city. They've also got magitechnologal robots, who are starting to unionize and fomenting revolt as their foremen begin to realize their lot in existance. [18:24:04] Dwarves have the Underground, which is a meritocratic society run largely by consensus, with overlapping government bodies that each citizen belongs to at varying ranks, in an attempt to reproduce the hivemind they lost when their god died, and Freeports, which are the venture of a dwarven merchant clan who voluntarily exiled themselves from dwarven culture to be able to interact with the other refugee nations more freely [18:25:06] Elves only have one nation of their own, an as-yet unnamed kingdom ruled by numerous noble lines and houses. The elves are very curious about the nature of flesh, being pure magic only recently bound up in it, and spend time among the other nations, refugee and native, fairly often [18:25:56] The miw-ren sort of exist as an underclass in the refugee nations. There are also miw-ren refugees who went to Torn before the fall and went native, living amongst goblins, sprites, and the like. [18:26:24] Their culture is caste-based and tribal and pretty open to discussion, since they're all splinter societies into themselves [18:27:39] Goblinoids largely have primitive societies, reminiscent of native americans or, in the depths of the continent, the Mayans. They're cold-blooded lizards, and the three castes are based on groupings of species that act within goblinoid society [18:29:43] Goblins are the smallest, and most often resemble small amphibeans and lizards, and make up the untouchable class, as well as the laborers and the like, depending on variations in marking and heritage. Orcs are larger, and resemble iguanas and the like, and make up the warriors. And trolls are the largest acknowledged, and the priestly caste worshipping the Fecund God [18:31:21] Sprites are marginally based on birds, and are broken into flighted (magical, with a society in the clouds, seen as messengers to the Fecund God) and flightless (who're migrants who live in the settlements left behind by the flighted birds after an ancient cataclysm, and worship the flighted sprites as intermediaries) [18:31:59] The amount of detail on and good ideas in these varies pretty drastically, since I've been working on this setting since I was, like, ten. :| 03[18:33:41] * Yon is now known as Megumi [18:33:54] Personally I'm more used to the classic big green half-pig Orc [18:33:58] but that's me 01[18:34:12] Most people are 01[18:34:20] Though that piggish orc's fallen out of favor [18:34:42] Fuck, I can't remember my password :( [18:34:45] howso? [18:35:00] I need to evolve Kale's character beyond "Hey guys," "Megumi is short!" [18:35:08] Think, think, think. [18:35:12] A lot of words are casually misused/realigned with original meanings in Torn [18:35:28] Like how 'orc' and 'dragon' were just words used to indicate scary shit 01[18:35:57] The pig-faced orc, while popular, fell out of favor around 2000. Orcs keep tusks, but they no longer have snouts. [18:36:11] ah 01[18:36:39] The green color's also fallen a little out of favor, with a lot of sources going with a grey color scheme [18:37:27] awww [18:37:33] Me like green 01[18:37:47] Well, Charles' orcs are green. 01[18:37:54] Well, as green as lizards, anyway [18:37:55] ah [18:41:17] Also man, now I get Cha's joke about Shepard breaking Joker in half. :smith: [18:41:36] I thought it was just a crack about Shepard being a badass and Joker being this skinny slacker pilot. :( [18:41:48] :( [18:42:11] Nope, it was definitely a 'sex with people who have boneitis is a bad idea' joke :( 01[18:43:04] haha 01[18:43:16] Charles should be Kentaro. :| [18:43:24] Whoops, totally missed that [18:43:31] I'm so used to just using his name normally 03[18:43:34] * Charles is now known as Kentaro 01[18:45:08] I like how Kentaro's line could be talking about either poisonous plants or predator species. :V [18:45:27] Hahaha [18:45:48] Hahaha 03[18:45:49] * Rowyn (rowyn2001@66.201.146.49) has joined #Exalted 01[18:46:22] Heeeeeey Rowyn [18:49:12] NO! [18:49:16] I mean...err..hi! [18:49:41] Hello Mr. Row [18:49:47] Or Ms? [18:49:53] I always assumed Mr. =( [18:49:58] I shouldn't assume things. [18:50:08] In this case it is a valid assumption. [18:50:14] Most awkward Hello ever! [18:50:21] No. [18:50:32] Most awkward hello ever is somewhere along the lines of "Show me your boobs" [18:50:43] Admittedly, that's not much of a hello. [18:51:07] Alternatively, Inigo Montoya, when he really means it, has a rather awkward hello. [18:51:22] Haha [18:51:27] True, true. [18:53:57] HAhahah [18:54:37] Hhahahahah, oh grognards.txt [18:54:38] This isn’t just old foggy stuff. If I wanted ridged rules and no RP I would go play guildwars. Even WOW has more RP built into it than D&D does now. I could play FF tactics just as well for tactical. The whole point of pen and paper games is using your minds eye. [18:55:33] Haha [18:55:34] Oh man [18:55:54] "i'm not roleplaying, dude, i'm using my minds eye" [18:56:19] Whoop! [18:56:34] I gotta run back to the dorm [18:56:37] So I'll be back in a few [18:56:45] you... you guys resolve this misunderstanding in the meantime. <_< 02[18:57:19] * Kale (MattinMeet@75-147-52-61-NewEngland.hfc.comcastbusiness.net) Quit (Quit: Kale) 03[19:10:02] * MattinMeeting (MattinMeet@173-9-111-234-NewEngland.hfc.comcastbusiness.net) has joined #Exalted [19:11:28] re:? 03[19:11:33] * MattinMeeting is now known as Kale [19:11:36] Wb. [19:11:43] Thankies 01[19:12:47] Rehi 01[19:13:27] [18:54:23] * Kale ahems, "Well, I didn't want to seem judgemental..." 01[19:13:27] [18:56:02] Wh-what? 01[19:13:27] [18:57:19] * Kale (MattinMeet@75-147-52-61-NewEngland.hfc.comcastbusiness.net) Quit (Quit: Kale) 01[19:13:27] [18:58:33] * Berny shrugs with a smile and keeps eating. 01[19:13:27] [18:58:37] * Megumi sputters a bit, turning red. 01[19:13:27] [19:00:02] * Kentaro leans back slightly, bridging his hands. "It's a matter of, uh, how words are put together. Like, say, Megumi lights to hit people who are bigger than her. She also likes to hit on Choutaro. By hitting him. It's a whole big thing." 01[19:13:27] [19:01:38] * Megumi blinks, recovering herself a bit. "Wait, you think me and Choutarou...?" 01[19:13:27] [19:02:52] Wait, didn't you beat him up for the right to breed with him? 01[19:13:27] [19:03:24] I...I whaaaaaaat? 01[19:13:27] [19:03:34] Is that how o--I mean, your, uh, family usually courts people? 01[19:13:27] [19:04:05] * Berny glances over at Kale and laughs nervously. 01[19:13:27] [19:04:33] It's...um...well the fighting is a part of it, but, uh... 01[19:13:27] [19:05:10] Just 'cause you fight someone doesn't mean you like 'em like THAT. 01[19:13:27] [19:06:14] * Kentaro frowns. "Well, I gotta say, that's kind of a letdown." 01[19:13:27] [19:06:21] I guess you don't have to answer if it's too, um, personal...but what's the other part of it? Just curious. 01[19:13:27] [19:10:02] * MattinMeeting (MattinMeet@173-9-111-234-NewEngland.hfc.comcastbusiness.net) has joined #youkai [19:13:41] Man, the fact that there are actual law blogs amuses the shit out of me, thanks to Arrested Development 01[19:14:07] hahahaha [19:15:50] I think it sounds really lame, but we call them blawgs. x_X;; [19:15:59] Hahahah [19:16:08] It just reminds me of the Bob Loblaw Law Blog [19:16:23] What's that? :3 [19:16:40] I'm not entirely sure what Kale is responding to exactly. :T [19:16:43] In Arrested Development, there was a character who was the family lawyer named Bob Loblaw [19:16:45] Oh! 01[19:16:50] Then he started a law blog [19:16:51] The beating people up courting thing? 01[19:16:58] Bob Loblaw's Law Blog [19:17:12] Which is just the most ridiculous mouthful possible [19:17:32] Hhahahahahah [19:17:32] happyelf posted: [19:17:32] Then you should figure out who the 3e loving jackass is, and work to undermine him with the group and move them to 4e. Do you have any idea who it is? [19:17:32] Happyelf runs in his gaming social circles like it's a Vampire larp. After the bloody coup, dice will lie abandoned and fatherless (edit: sorry, sireless or whatever) beneath the refrigerator. [19:17:32] (but yeah, do this, don't let one asshole hold your group back from fun) 01[19:17:47] haha [19:17:57] Hahahaha [19:21:31] brb [19:23:38] I think one of my immediate tasks for Torn should be reconsidering the timeline (Maybe 200 years instead of 100) and expanding and reconsidering the stuff that's currently kinda sucky and undeveloped 01[19:24:38] Like what? 01[19:24:43] Oh, have you considered starting a wiki for it? 01[19:24:50] I know I suggest that for everything though. :( [19:27:36] It's a good idea, yeah [19:28:01] Ahahahah, I love this one [19:28:03] Karandras posted: [19:28:03] The people I know that play World In Flames (Similar super long strategic game, looking at about 6 months for a game if you play once a week and every public holiday for 5 hours) and have the house rule that the Axis can't surrender. It helps that the game ends in August 1945 I guess. [19:28:03] In my circle, World in Flames is commonly called "Weekend in Flames", "Semester in Flames", or "Marriage in Flames". The only game more grognardy would be Europa. 01[19:28:13] hahahha 02[19:29:00] * Rowyn (rowyn2001@66.201.146.49) Quit (Ping timeout: 180 seconds) [19:30:07] Hahaha [19:30:52] Dem: Stuff like certain cultures not having much development, personal ambivalence on how techy stuff is versus how magical, a lack of easy to get detail on the cosmology and what, like, other stuff means, and so forth [19:31:15] Oh man http://achrongame.com/ 01[19:31:22] That thing is INSANE 01[19:31:27] Did you see the video? [19:32:53] Not yet. I'm not even sure how to visualize it [19:33:03] The big siren thing is preordering it for the current version 06[19:34:16] * Demota nods 01[19:34:23] Go to youtube, look for Achron [19:41:03] If anyone feels like they want to buy me a $30 present for my birthday, this is the thing [19:42:38] Because holy shit [19:43:10] Dinnertime. I'll be back! [19:48:57] Oh man, Achron requires at dual core as a minimum. It's gonna run like shit :( 01[19:49:01] :( [19:49:30] I really need to find a way to afford a good computer [19:49:38] Or at least a less bad one [19:52:48] I hear that. [19:52:59] There's always prostitution. [19:53:16] The door is open in Nevada with the first legal male prostitute. [19:56:45] Yeah, but I don't think I'd be a good mrostitute 01[19:57:28] Brostitute [19:57:45] Yeah, brahstitution is a hard business. [19:58:36] I guess it's like Carnegie Hall, where you get there via practice [19:58:38] Heading off. Seeyas 01[19:58:42] Later 02[19:58:48] * Alt-Eisen (neorook@cpe-76-175-9-161.socal.res.rr.com) Quit (Quit: Client Exited) [20:02:22] @Ken Hahahahaha 01[20:02:26] hahhahahaha [20:03:49] What would you call the thing that Burns does with his fingers? [20:03:53] I wanted to :eviltent: [20:03:58] but that sounds strange and ambiguous [20:04:07] I just call it tenting your fingers [20:04:16] :eviltent: reminds me of the boss from Earthbound [20:04:25] What, is it a tent? [20:05:02] http://walkthrough.starmen.net/earthbound/image/screens/12/boogeytent.png [20:05:05] Back. :3 [20:05:13] Just in time to see Kentaro's lovely drawing [20:05:19] Woot! [20:05:25] Oh, wow, it really is an evil tent. [20:05:36] http://files.fobby.net/0000/4a07/Oogie%20Boogie%20Tent.jpg This is cute [20:05:42] I'm sorry I doubted you, Charles. [20:07:00] Haha, wow. [20:08:08] Robobaberny [20:08:09] Earthbound is a really good game, entirely because if you make offhand reference to almost anything in it, there's like a ninety percent chance that people will think you're just making shit up to mess with them 01[20:08:27] haha [20:09:04] I've never heard of it. What system was it for? [20:09:11] The Super Nintendo [20:09:25] Ah, I somehow never owned one. [20:10:06] You should totally get a rom and play it. As a kid, I kinda just accepted everything that was happening, but currently, looking back, I really enjoy it as a piece of literature about growing up. [20:11:01] Because you go from place to place solving these problems, and slowly the problems become less and less solvable and you have to leave places less and less fully fixed and compromise more and more. Not that it's an actual part of the narrative, because it's an SNES game, but it's an interesting subtext [20:11:25] (It also has one of the creepiest final bosses ever, and that alone is worth the ride) [20:11:28] Haha, interesting. (I was already sold when I saw the evil tent, haha.) [20:13:40] Mother 3, the sequel, is also fascinating. It's alternative a story about middle age or a fable about Japan losing its cultural identity to western imperialists [20:13:45] Probably both and more 06[20:14:15] * Berny nods. [20:14:21] It would have had an *even creepier* final boss than Earthbound, but the lead dev cut it, after he 'became a good person' in his own words [20:15:38] o_o [20:18:42] o_o indeed. [20:20:21] Hrm. [20:20:25] How creepy are we talking? [20:20:49] Well, Mother 3's was very unsettling music and imagery used as the background of the fight. [20:21:34] Earthbound's wasn't quite as unsettling, until you find out that the final boss's dialogue was taken from a scene from a rape-themed porno that the lead dev accidentally walked in on as a child and was traumatized by [20:21:39] o_o [20:21:47] o_o [20:22:58] That whole series sounds like some kind of freaky catharsis [20:25:10] (Specifically, the genderless/quasi-male evil entity's dialogue was taken from the female actress's lines, which makes it even more bizarre) [20:25:18] I think that's probably the case to some degree [20:25:30] Especially since, after Mother 3, he has no more interest in developing the series [20:26:16] "I want you to listen to me. And believe this because I mean it from the bottom of my heart: all romance ends in despair. Or death—but mostly despair. Gut wrenching despair. And I, I have to say this, I'm actually happy that this happened—its just going to make you better to realize that most people are out there to destroy any chance of happiness that you have." [20:26:17] Not a good pep talk. [20:26:52] What's the from? [20:27:23] Psych [20:27:48] Juliette is asking the crazy guy detective to be her sounding board on relationships [20:29:02] Aaah [20:29:14] It's... funnier when he's saying it. <_< [20:30:18] Juliet. [20:30:22] Not Juliette. [20:30:34] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuvQ7z-CzQE Earthbound has some really bizarre, effecting music for a 16-bit game 06[20:32:16] * Berny clicks. [20:32:41] That is pretty unsettling for 16-bit. [20:32:59] I guess the game is pretty creepy? [20:33:15] I always thought it was supposed to be kind of kiddy fun. =( [20:33:22] What's great/awful is that the game, for most of it, is IS kiddy fun 01[20:33:27] Yeah [20:33:30] It's these four tweens on a great adventure! 01[20:33:42] Earthbound is a game that, I think everyone should play ever 5 years. 01[20:33:50] Since it speaks so differently depending on how old you are [20:34:06] And then you're getting your brains pulled out of your bodies to go back in time time to abort an alien fetus before it becomes the embodiment of primal evil [20:36:27] @_@ [20:36:32] "Ah! Grr! Yaaagh! Argh! Yaaah! I'm h... a... p... p... y..." [20:36:36] This fucking game [20:37:11] Man, I hope they rerelease it for DS or something. [20:37:18] It looks fun. 01[20:37:26] Yeah. Or at least on Virtual Console [20:37:33] Man, I'm watching the ending, and I have no idea how I would deal with this as a kid. [20:37:47] The fight against Giygas? [20:37:52] Yeah [20:37:55] Pokey is terrifying [20:38:02] Yeah [20:38:04] Let alone final Giygas [20:38:17] Pokey is really interesting as a villian because he's just so remorelessly prickish [20:38:19] Oh, is this the game Ness is from? I always wondered where he was taken out of. [20:38:24] Yeah [20:38:34] Like, he's evil in a really mundane way for a game character [20:38:58] And he's given non-mundane ways to express that, but he basically just wants power [20:39:15] ...I wonder what 'Mani-Mani' was in Japanese [20:39:22] It just hit me that it sounds like 'money' 01[20:40:29] Huh. Yeah [20:41:51] Which kind of adds a layer of symbolism with how everyone wants Mani-Mani and everyone gets corrupted by Mani-Mani [20:42:04] And how Fourside has an entire alternate dimension based on the worship of Mani-Mani [20:42:15] Makes sense. 06[20:42:18] * Demota nods 01[20:42:26] Well, even in the Japanese version, they probably like using ENglish words [20:42:33] Yeah [20:42:57] Oh, man [20:43:29] Now that you mentioned the rape-porno thing, this is really, really messed up [20:45:33] I'm watching the abridged version of that movie that supposedly inspired that last scene. [20:45:42] o_o [20:45:50] How did you find an abridged version? [20:45:57] http://earthboundcentral.com/2009/01/the-scene-that-inspired-giygas/ [20:46:10] Oh, that's a really good way to find it. [20:48:31] Man, apparently prayers mess Giygas up. [20:48:38] Yeah [20:48:49] Which is another interesting corollary [20:48:57] that praying can beat out the corrupting influence of mani-mani? [20:48:59] What makes that kinda interesting is A: It's the only way to beat him, and B: It's fucking USELESS for the rest of the game [20:49:12] like, is mani-mani related to giygasS? [20:49:17] I can't remember if mani-mani was related to Giygas or not [20:49:21] Oh, okay [20:49:35] It starts off when this guy in your town finds this golden statue buried under his house [20:49:47] And then it starts getting passed between power and wealth-hungry people [20:49:52] And the statue is called Mani-Mani [20:50:01] Ahh [20:52:53] That movie looks kind of interesting, actually [20:53:05] As far as old thrillers go [20:53:05] Earthbound is interesting in that it has several plots running simultaneously, I think [20:53:20] Like, I don't think mani-mani is relevant to *anything* [20:53:24] "• The war against Giygas is over" [20:53:38] (Also, the prayer thing is even weirder when the abortion imagery is considered) [20:53:45] Yeah, for sure. [20:54:00] I don't want to spoil the end too much, but man, when they beat giygas, really strange. [20:54:07] Like, the chambers leading up to Giygas are called the Devil's Machine, which resolve a vagina, cervix, and womb [20:54:14] Resemble, rather [20:54:26] And there are parts where the Giygas heads converge to form the outline of a fetus 02[20:55:47] * Gtab (Gtab@s0106001e8c02a25e.vc.shawcable.net) Quit (Quit: Client Exited) [20:56:06] Man, everyone always hates on the girl bits. [20:56:20] "I'm going to stay here and see if I can learn more from Dr. Andonuts." [20:56:22] "I mean" [20:56:24] "my dad." 03[20:56:32] * Gtab (Gtab@S0106001e8c02a25e.vc.shawcable.net) has joined #Exalted [20:56:46] Yeah, this dev, apparently not a fan of lady parts. [20:56:57] Maha: Female reproductive organs are chaotic and frightening D: [20:57:02] I guess he was traumatized by a boob as a child, haha. [20:57:15] http://earthboundcentral.com/2008/02/shigesato-itoi-giygas-and-boobies/ [20:57:41] Haha [20:58:20] Hahahaha [20:58:33] asically, Giygas is something you can’t make sense of, you know? But there’s also a part to him that’s like a living being that deserves love. That part is the breast of Hisako Tsukuba from “The Military Policeman and the Dismembered Beauty” [20:58:36] *Basically [20:58:58] This man is inasne [20:59:00] *insane [20:59:07] I'm laughing so hard at the interview I can't type right [20:59:08] Amusing, though. [20:59:23] It's adorable. 01[20:59:26] Hahaha [20:59:59] Oh, I guess I can see the distorted breast shape kind of thing. [21:00:34] But, in the summary it looked like the guy just grabbed her breast really briefly, and not so hard. 01[21:00:37] Games lack subtlety these days [21:00:54] Yeah, I didn't notice much grabbing. [21:01:02] Dem> Yeah. [21:01:10] I don't know if Earthbound has subtlety so much as, like, a dump of the director's neuroses 02[21:01:10] * Gtab (Gtab@S0106001e8c02a25e.vc.shawcable.net) Quit (Quit: Client Exited) [21:01:28] Which is fascinating in its own way, but still 06[21:02:25] * Demota nods [21:02:26] I totally want to play that now. 01[21:02:32] Well, SNES emulation isn't hard 01[21:02:36] It's not perfect, but it's not hard [21:02:44] Well, I guess it has some subtlety [21:02:45] Yeah. I have one of them somewhere on my machine. [21:02:52] I just have to dig it out and find the ROM. [21:02:56] :) [21:02:57] On the other hand, *good* games nowadays still have subtlety and emotional depth [21:03:11] Yeah, like Far Cry 2. [21:03:14] Oh wait [21:03:17] The final scene of The Lost and Damned was one of the most beautiful things I've seen in video games after everything leading up to it [21:03:29] Haven't heard of that one either. [21:03:42] It was the standalone expansion for Grand Theft Auto 4 [21:03:45] Yeah [21:03:53] the first, rather [21:03:57] since Ballad of Gay Tony is out now. 03[21:04:11] * Gtab (Gtab@S0106001e8c02a25e.vc.shawcable.net) has joined #Exalted [21:04:13] The premise was that you were a guy in a motorcycle gang who had been running it while the old leader was in rehab [21:04:48] And when the old leader gets out of rehab, it starts this personality conflict that rips the gang, who're all pretty strongly detailed and established as likable characters, by and large, despite being really scummy people, in half 06[21:05:32] * Berny nods. [21:05:42] And the game ends when most of the gang members have died in this conflict between the two leaders, and your rival's turned himself into the cops under the premise that he's going to testify against you and screw you even worse than he's getting [21:05:45] Man, I still have to play GTA. I think I have one of them sitting around somewhere, but I've never played it. :o 06[21:06:04] * Berny nods. [21:06:38] So you call the rest of your gang together and, in one last blaze of glory, break into the Alderney state prison to kill him before he can rat you out. And the way they do it is really impressive. Because they set it up to be this huge action-packed extravaganza [21:07:03] Free guns and ammo from your supplier. Armloads of heavy weapons. All the surviving Lost members together to pull off this huge fucking caper [21:07:09] And as you go through it, more and more people fall [21:07:25] And finally, it's just you and your rival in a blood-soaked prison yard, waiting for you to pull the trigger [21:07:57] And when you do, your reward is that your conflict's literally destroyed the only thing your character cared about in his life. [21:08:19] Oh, GTA. 01[21:08:36] I like that GTA4's gotten a lot smarter [21:08:48] The very end has your character and the, like, three other surviving members, one of whom is paralyzed from the waist down, clearing out their gang's clubhouse, as your character pours this trail of gasoline through all the rooms. [21:09:30] And they stand on the sidewalk in a light rain, and watch their spiritual home for however long the gang's been together burn down, because there's nothing left to hold them together [21:10:53] You know what gets me? GTA4 is the single most important, poignant statement about the American Dream in decades. And it's full of dick jokes and made by the British [21:12:22] Like, in video games, or in general? [21:12:29] Because I don't know if I agree, as far as literature and such goes. [21:12:35] I'm gonna go so far as to say in pop culture. [21:12:41] Maybe not literature [21:12:47] But in terms of things the average person consumes [21:12:49] Haha [21:12:52] Well, I didn't actually have any evidence to back up my statement. [21:14:59] Oy, another gray hair. [21:19:23] :( [21:19:30] I'm so old! [21:19:41] Apparently Harper is the youngest between he, Zac and I. [21:19:43] Which was startling. [21:19:49] And just made me feel older. =( [21:20:05] Oh man. [21:20:14] The Mummy is the bad guy in the new Psych episode. [21:20:19] Hahah [21:21:10] Eh? [21:21:38] Whatshisname creepyface from The Mummy [21:22:50] Hehe, I don't know who played the Mummy. :) [21:23:28] Apparently his name is Arnold Vosloo [21:23:57] Is he creepy-looking without the makeup/costume? [21:24:11] God, playing a hunter in WoW is like playing an entirely different game from everyone else [21:24:35] I dunno, his headshot on IMDB has him with a big goober grin [21:24:35] Haha, in what way? [21:25:08] Like, every other class actually has to go up and try to kill stuff and has to rest and plan things out [21:25:32] Hahaha. [21:25:38] Meanwhile, Hunters have this tamagotchi that just eats shit up and they can stand in place and just shoot at anything marginally threatening while their pet sticks to it [21:25:45] My main was a hunter. I guess that's why I got bored easily. [21:26:18] Bunkar 03[21:26:27] * Rowyn (rowyn2001@66.201.146.49) has joined #Exalted [21:26:34] Honestly, it's kind of a refreshing break from the constant panic of being a priest and soloing to 80 [21:27:03] I dunno, WoW just kinda bored me easily in general... [21:28:37] But, to be fair, Charles makes it sound really interesting when he tells me stories. [21:28:43] Brb. [21:28:49] Well, MORE interesting, at least. [21:29:50] Aw, Daisuke is awesome. [21:30:01] He's really cute, yeah [21:30:31] WoW's gotten better, but I think your tolerance for WoW is directly linked to how much you like increasing numbers [21:32:11] Mine is inversely proportional; if I started at level 80 I'd be totally happy [21:32:45] I keep wanting to spell that word "porportional," but then its just all about degrees of porpoises. =( [21:33:46] Hahaha [21:34:17] One of these days, I'll let you borrow my account since I have a few 80s on, and you can be totally fucking boggled by what goes on. :| [21:34:37] I think the hard/bad thing is that, like, level 35 and up are more or less necessary for understanding what goes on at higher levels [21:35:07] Yeah, but I'm like an MMO hummingbird regardless [21:35:20] I can't pay attention to them long enough to learn anything. [21:36:11] Well, that's not entirely true. [21:36:25] We'll see what happens. First things first, I need to make that computer work again. [21:37:00] Maybe if you want to try it, we could do the recruit-a-friend thing [21:37:14] It'll do stuff like let us link characters so I can level you past the shitty parts [21:37:54] And then when you look back on playing WoW and only see one set of footsteps in the sands of Tanaris, you can be all "But Charles, why are there only one set of footsteps when I had to do those bullshit Silithid quests" [21:38:02] And I'll say "That was when I carried you, Matt" [21:38:21] Hahaha [21:38:53] Haaaaaahahahahah [21:40:31] Hahahaha [21:40:32] Nice. [21:44:19] "Germs originated in Germany, before spreading throughout the rest of the world." [21:44:21] http://video.adultswim.com/look-around-you/germs.html 01[21:46:08] I miss Look Around You 01[21:46:13] It's a pity about the second season [21:46:24] I just learned about it a couple weeks ago [21:46:29] Here we go, here's the recruit-a-friend bonuses [21:46:30] * Recruit and veteran characters can summon one another to each other's locations across the globe. [21:46:30] * While adventuring with your linked friend or family member, you will each gain triple experience while partied up to level 60. [21:46:30] * For every two levels recruit characters earn, one "grantable" level is gained. Recruit characters may then grant these levels to lower level veteran characters. [21:46:56] It looks like they no longer have the 'linked XP' thing, or else I was just remembering that from another game [21:47:46] "You can get germs from a number of places, and because they're invisible, they're almost impossible to see." [21:47:48] Linked xp was CoH [21:48:18] WoW was only ever triple XP [21:48:47] I think Champions has linked xp as well, and possibly STO [21:49:24] I should probably sleep soon [21:49:32] since I have to get up early tomorrow. =( [21:49:40] :( [21:49:53] And it seems like the next logical step in Youkai is to GO TO MONGOLIAAAA! [21:50:02] XD [21:50:05] Hahahah [21:50:30] I think Dem wants our first road trip to be to Touno. :V 01[21:50:40] hahaha [21:50:43] But that doesn't portend anything. [21:52:38] (Where's Tuono?) [21:52:54] I think we should avoid going to Touno because then Dem could end the game abruptly and unsatisfyingly. [21:53:01] Dondo de kono hare [21:53:04] o_o [21:53:12] It's a town in Japan full of bizarre shitty folklore 01[21:53:12] Kore de dondo hare [21:53:37] Oh, let's go there. [21:53:43] Like, stories like "There's a box in this house. Nobody wants to open it. Kore de dondo hare." [21:53:45] Like, really bizarre and shitty. [21:53:53] Oh. [21:54:03] Let's go there. [21:54:11] Or "A man was walking in a forest and saw a strange woman. He thought she was a fox in disguise so he shot her. Kore de dondo hare." [21:54:19] Ohhh. [21:54:20] Oh. 01[21:54:39] I think the thread's goldmined [21:54:54] Or "A man was walking in the town square, and he heard a stranger whisper his name. But it did not portend anything. Kore de dondo hare." [21:55:07] Hahaha [21:55:39] Like, I love folklore unconditionally, so when I say it's bizarre and shitty, I mean it REALLY pulls out all the stops [21:56:16] An alarming number seemed to involve guys shooting people they met in the woods because they thought they were disguised foxes, though [21:56:28] There's a lesson there. [21:56:35] And somehow the town is FAMOUS because of this folklore. [21:56:44] Don't be a stranger in Touno? [21:56:51] Don't be a HOT stranger in Touno. [21:56:57] Yuck yuck yuck. [21:57:28] I can only assume that their folklore is so shitty it's become legendary just for being shitty. [21:57:37] Cause hot, like foxy. [21:57:46] Anyway [21:57:47] It's like the mythical equivalent of manzai or something [21:57:56] This is a good example of how tired I am. [21:58:07] I'm going to take off, if we're okay for me to disappear tonight in Youkai. [21:58:20] We HAVE been going for a while [21:58:23] Yeah [21:58:29] I'm pretty tired myself 06[21:59:09] * Demota nods 01[21:59:14] Shall I stop? [21:59:26] Sounds good to me. [22:00:10] Yeah [22:00:15] No, we have to keep going. [22:00:27] But seriously. 03[22:00:36] * Megumi is now known as Yon 03[22:00:50] * Kale is now known as MattyQ [22:01:21] Hahahahah [22:01:27] My dad just saw a headline on CNN: [22:01:35] "Donated circus tents could house Haiti's government" [22:01:57] That's a pretty good headline from every single angle, I think [22:02:24] Hahahahahhahahahahaa [22:02:33] G'night all [22:02:36] Nite, Matty 03[22:02:40] * Berny is now known as Cheeseball [22:02:45] Good playing tonight 03[22:02:55] * MattyQ is now known as MattyQisAsleep [22:02:59] Night, guys [22:03:12] Nite, Cha. [22:03:21] (Really, donated circus tents should stand in for most legistlative bodies' buildings) 03[22:03:24] * Kentaro is now known as Charles [22:03:34] Hehe [22:03:41] I guess I'll head out, too. G'nite! 06[22:03:43] * Cheeseball waves. 02[22:04:05] * Cheeseball (mahamari@adsl-67-121-125-98.dsl.pltn13.pacbell.net) Quit (Quit: ZzzZzzzz.) Session Close: Thu Feb 11 22:53:09 2010
